POSITION SUMMARY The Communications & Events Coordinator plans and implements Kresge Arts in Detroit’s communication strategy and produces external and internal events. The position is part-time and is funded by a two-year grant, with a high likelihood of continuation.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND Administered by the College for Creative Studies, Kresge Arts in Detroit represents one aspect of The Kresge Foundation’s investment in Detroit, providing support to artists living and working in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Since 2008, Kresge Arts in Detroit has awarded more than $5.5 million, no strings attached, to individual artists the Kresge Eminent Artist Award ($50,000 each), Kresge Artist Fellowships ($25,000 each), and Gilda Awards ($5,000 each). kresgeartsindetroit.org
Develop and execute thoughtful strategies to optimize online and offline program engagement
Maintain consistent social media presence and prepare quarterly report on engagement
Generate content, including developing story ideas, interviewing artists, capturing photo and video of events, pitching media outlets, and consistently seeking new ways to promote awarded artists
Write, edit, and proofread digital and print copy, such as website content, eblasts, social media posts, press releases, reports, and fact sheets
Create and maintain a communications calendar to ensure deadlines and goals are met
Coordinate with contracted event staff and venues to produce several large-scale celebration events each year
Source and collaborate with vendors for communications and event support as needed
Provide support for panel review processes and applicant workshops
Serve as an ambassador and advocate for the program
Self-starter with the ability to plan and implement strategy while managing multiple, complex projects
Exceptional writing and editing skills
Ability to create content quickly for a wide variety of media and audiences
Proficient across social media platforms and tools, including analytics
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
Experience with Wordpress and Constant Contact preferred
Familiar with Detroit arts & culture communities
Experience working with artists and arts professionals
Five years of professional communications experience, including a track record of creating effective plans and successful implementation
