The Department of Art & Art History at the University of Texas at Arlington seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Packaging Design, at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2020.
We seek dynamic candidates with effective teaching abilities that have a strong background and knowledge in creative industry packaging practice, design, materials and/or digital fabrication. The position will provide instruction and research for its growing Packaging Design program; an award-winning curriculum that focuses on visual design, packaging structure design, materials, performance, testing, and sustainability, and is integrated within the Corrugated Prototype Design and CAD Production Lab (CORRPRO) at UTA. Candidates with diverse educational backgrounds and related disciplines are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to Visual Communication Design, Architecture, Engineering, Communication and Business.
The ideal candidate will be dedicated to the national and international prominence of the Packaging Design program while maintaining a high level of performance in scholarship, spearheading innovation, and building inter-departmental/corporate partnerships (Architecture, Engineering, Sciences, Social Work, Communication, etc.). Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service. Secondary appointments in other units/colleges are possible. A high work ethic with strong client/project management skills is preferred. Applicants with experience that incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are encouraged to apply.
A terminal degree in one of the listed areas – (MFA/MDes/PhD) in Packaging, Industrial Design, Visual Communications/Graphic Design, Product Design, Architecture, Industrial Technology, Engineering, Business or related fields from an accredited (recognized equivalent) university.
