The Language Science department in the School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine seeks a highly organized, resourceful, and detail-oriented multi-tasker to provide analytical support to a NSF- PIRE (Partnerships for International Research and Education) research and training grant awarded to Penn State, with a sub-award to UCI. The grant supports a unique and highly collaborative program in language and learning science. There are 55 PIRE-affiliated faculty across 17 institutions in 10 countries, including 10 UCI faculty from Language Science, Cognitive Sciences, Education, Spanish and German. The PIRE Academic Program Manager will manage, plan, and administer a complex research and training program which features 8-week research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students with PIRE partners in Asia, Europe and the Americas. As a member of the School of Social Sciences, the incumbent is tasked with upholding and exemplifying excellence in the University's core competencies-- job mastery, goal accomplishment, enterprise contribution and innovation-- while representing the UCI NSF-PIRE program in language and learning science to the campus. The incumbent is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. They will work to ensure that the PIRE program in language and learning science is planned and managed efficiently. The PIRE program manager will provide project policy analysis and review, operations and logistics support, and develop and implement student recruitment plans. The position requires a broad, collaborative skill set, advanced skills in project management and research administration, and very strong oral and written communication skills. This position will require frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders, within the USA and abroad.
