Normal Work Schedule: Work schedule will vary depending on departmental and event needs, will include early mornings, nights, weekends and some traveling.
Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Student Life Specialist I is responsible for the administration of one or more Student Life program(s). Serves as liaison between the program and other departments or the community. Position may supervise staff or students. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.
Additional Department Summary: The Coordinator, University Programs is responsible for working with a student programming board to coordinate, implement, market, and assess weekly events for UP and campus-wide events for the Division of Student Life. This position will, assist in the day to day advisement of a student programming board and include frequent interaction and collaboration with other student groups, campus departments, businesses, vendors, and community members. The Coordinator will also be responsible for assisting in daily office tasks and working daytime, evening, and weekend events. Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in event planning, marketing, communications, working with or supervising student staff, or advising student program boards or organizations. Must be able to work early mornings and frequent nights and weekends. Some travel may be required.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and oral communications skills along with strong interpersonal skills are necessary. Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks are essential. The ability to work with a diverse population and students is crucial. Experience working in a highly confidential, fast-paced environment with multiple shifting priorities. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written communications. An understanding of and ability to use social media platforms and other skill areas included campaign management, public relations, graphic design, website management word press, brand management, social and digital media management, and proficiency in adobe creative cloud. Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in higher education, management, marketing, communication, public relations, hospitality management, or closely related field. Graduate or professional experience in communications, marketing, graphic design, or student development and higher education administration. Experience with photography and videography or working knowledge of website design.
