Position Summary: This position provides paralegal support for attorneys in multiple practice groups, including Business, Finance and Innovation, Investments, Capital Strategies, as well as CPRA. Exhibits a strong foundation of knowledge in the overall paralegal field with some specialized experience in specific area(s). Capable of performing duties independently, this paralegal must excel in operating in multiple practice areas for a number of attorneys with a focus on attention to detail and effective time management. Conducts research on projects as directed by attorneys.
A UC Legal paralegal acts as a liaison with internal clients, outside counsel and external organizations and may manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. Must be able to thrive in a collaborative work environment while also functioning with autonomy. Assists in reviewing and drafting transaction documents, such as contracts, NDAs, equity and investment transactions, commercial agreements, legal retentions and conflict waivers.

Provides analyses across a broad spectrum of practice areas and/or moderate to complex administrative topics, policies and initiatives or provides analyses as a specialist in multiple practice areas; i.e., Business Transactions, Finance, Investments and PRA. Researches legal matters, analyzes with an emphasis on attention to detail and reports to attorneys in multiple practice areas.
Proposes and/or participates in legal policy and planning committees and OGC legal practice working groups.
Compiles data from various sources, legal digests, and practice manuals.
Prepares reports and/or analyses summarizing information on assigned issues and commenting on other significance for constituents.
Reviews conflict waivers as part of due diligence.
Collects, compiles, and summarizes information to assist with the development of legal policy communications.
Assist with University specific matters such as tracking equity approvals and acceptances, review of legislative proposals affecting University, procurement issues, conflict of interest and commitment concerns, track ownership interests in University affiliated entities and assist with reporting of same to auditors, and other transactions as assigned.
Coordinates onsite investigations including employee interviews and document location and review. May be responsible for witness / client interviews needed to establish relevant facts.
Builds and maintains the SharePoint sites for multiple practice areas.
Functions as a technical resource on key processes and applications such as weekly updates on key transactions using key applications; i.e., Counsel Link, Net Docs, Quovant, Tableau and eCounsel.
Provides guidance to legal support staff and coordinates work in the absence of attorneys.
Assists with systems orientation for new hire attorneys.
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience and/or paralegal certification.
In-depth experience in a body of legal knowledge relating to one or more legal practice areas represented within Office of General Counsel, as demonstrated by progressively responsible experience as a paralegal working in a commercial firm, government or educational institution.
In-depth knowledge of transactional section work flow and process requirements, along with the ability to identify, gather and present relevant information for projects and assignments.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), other relational databases, electronic mail, and the Internet.
Strong legal and policy research, analytical/problem-solving skills. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing;
Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
Excellent organizational and project management skills. Proven ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes to manage chronically high activity and handle a large volume of matters and issues requiring timely handling and assistance.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Knowledge of compliance obligations for state licensing board and National Practitioner Data Bank reporting.
Ability to independently identify, gather and present relevant information for projects and assignments.
Demonstrated effective time management skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and analyze unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative work environment. Required

Experience in Business Transactions and Business Finance, Innovation, Contracts and Litigation, Public Records Act and Conflict waivers practice areas is highly preferred.
Thorough knowledge of UC processes, protocols and procedures.
Experience planning and developing data management systems and procedures.
