JOB TITLE: Development Manager DEPARTMENT: Development REPORTS TO: Development Director SUPERVISES: N/A CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full-Time, Salary EFFECTIVE DATE: 10/1/19
SUMMARY: The Development Manager is responsible for fundraising activities and donor care functions of the organization to ensure long-term organizational sustainability. The Development department’s key accountability is to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals as set in the fiscal year’s budget. The Development Manager will cultivate a major donor portfolio, project manage the direct mail campaigns and event work plans, and will coordinate event sponsorship procurement. This role will also manage a grant portfolio. These areas of responsibility will be performed with overall direction from the Development Director but the Development Manager will make significant decisions and will delegate tasks to the Development Coordinator and volunteers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Annual Fund (40%)
Project manage direct mail campaigns with third party vendor.
Lead each campaign, with input from Development Director, and manage and meet deadlines, produce necessary reports, and track other relevant metrics.
Participate in the cultivation and stewardship of annual donors and prospects.
Grow and manage monthly donor program.
Major Gifts (25%)
Participate in the cultivation and stewardship of an assigned portfolio of major donors.
Use initiative and growing skills to continually move donors through cultivation cycle, without pushing or losing momentum.
Synthesize donor history and input to “read” donor capacity, interest, and timing.
Use empathy and confidence to assist with donor needs and to instill confidence in the organization.
Direct and/or delegate event elements, including but not limited to managing deadlines and tracking relevant metrics.
Continually communicate liaise with Board, Host committee, event vendors, etc.
Assist the Development Director in writing sponsorship applications and finding sources.
Delegate sponsor procurement to appropriate leaders.
Complete assigned grants in portfolio.
Track all grant deadlines and progress.
Assist the Development Director in finding new sources of foundation and corporate giving.
Other Duties (5%)
Assist in the management of donor records, gift processing and recognition. Ensure accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources.
Participates actively in Development and Marketing Department meetings and activities, providing support as needed and requested.
Carries out other duties as assigned, including projects within new fundraising campaigns.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities. However, the Development Manager will supervise third party vendors, department and event volunteers, and interns.

Able to function calmly under pressure while managing multiple projects. Eager to assess functionality of processes and brainstorm improvements.

Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university in business administration, marketing and communications, or a related field.
Computer skills required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Salesforce experience a plus.
Other skills required:
At least two years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, fundraising, or marketing, or comparable experience in the for-profit sector.
Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license and driving record is deemed acceptable by Tree House Humane Society’s insurance carrier.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good analytical skills and ability to generate data that is useful for broader audiences.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate fundraising, volunteer, and external events and meetings.

Work is completed in an office environment within an animal shelter.

Salary range is $40,000 - $45,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
