The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse at DePaul University seeks a colleague to join the department at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in the area of culturally diverse rhetorics (particularly Latinx, African-American, or Indigenous rhetorics), with a focus on political, activist, or social movement rhetorics. Secondary expertise in composition theory and pedagogy, second language writing, feminist or LGBTQ studies, or multicultural literacies will also be of particular interest. The position will start in September 2020.
Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse is an independent writing department that offers a minor in Professional Writing, a major in Writing and Rhetoric, and an MA degree. Our faculty have a wide range of interests and expertise in areas such as community-engaged research, feminist rhetorics, multilingual writing, composition theory and pedagogy, professional and technical writing, multimodal and digital rhetorics, and the history and theory of rhetoric. The colleague we seek for this position will enhance our department’s undergraduate and graduate course offerings on culturally diverse rhetorical practices, particularly in political activist and/or social movement contexts. The successful candidate will also contribute to the university’s Liberal Studies program. Applicants should demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, as well as a promising research agenda in their areas of expertise.
