The Senior Graphic Designer designs and creates marketing communication materials, serves as a team lead of the Student Life Marketing design team internship program and as a backup to Art Director as needed; creates graphic and marketing communication materials that consistently identify, drive and communicate services offered by departments within the Office of Student Life including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, invitations, schedules, manuals, web and other electronic materials, signage, multimedia presentations, displays, promotional item artwork and development and sponsorship materials; works with Art Director to determine creative direction, plans, estimates and timetables for projects; coordinates design process including production of artwork, submitting final layouts and designs for approval, securing of production estimates and keeping projects on schedule; oversees Design Team internship program; provides performance expectations and standards to student interns and provides feedback and mentorship on student graphic design projects; verifies intern project compliance with university brand standards; assigns design projects to interns as needed; approves student employee timekeeping; maintains a positive, professional internship program experience for all student employees; collaborates with Art Director to align internship program experience with objectives of Student Life Marketing; adheres to and supports the Ohio State and Student Life visual identity guidelines; coordinates design phase of production; assists in development of archival systems for cataloging digital files; some nights and/or weekends may be required.
Bachelor's degree in design with visual communications major or degree from an accredited design or art institute with a graphic design major or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 4-6 years of professional experience in a graphic design environment.
Computer proficiency on IBM and MAC-based platforms; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other layout programs; work experience and knowledge of design principles; experience in other multi-media production venues (web sites, CD's, video); knowledge of professional printing standards and previous experience working with professional printers; higher education experience; experience supervising students.
