The primary purpose of this position is to monitor, diagnose, and manage problems within our central network, as well as to provide a central strategic / tactical coordination facility for customers throughout the University as needed. The goal is to detect Network and Security problems before they impact the campus, and when necessary, limit their impact by taking immediate action. Position requirements include using the Operations Center as a centralized source for coordination of incidents that impact the campus. Position facilitates coordination and communication during critical unplanned outages with the service providers, ITS Communications & Digital Services and the office of the CIO. This position uses proprietary software to disable compromised user accounts to prevent the spread of malware and spam. In most cases, due to coverage requirements, the Operations Center Analyst must perform the above listed duties with limited additional staff, and with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a - Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of networking related experience such as network design, analysis or network management; or - Associate’s degree in Electronics or Networking Technology and one year of networking related experience: or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Journey level requires an additional one year of experience. - Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.
Strong background in Unix, Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems, as well as networking and security fundamentals to include infrastructure troubleshooting (common service ports, VLAN, IP). This position demands the ability to multitask and make important decisions in a stressful environment. Strong communication / organization skills are essential. Candidate must be able to accommodate working flexible shifts and understand the issues presented when working in a shift type 24 × 7 × 365 environment. High interpersonal, planning, organizing, communication skills and attention to detail.
Experience in a 24/7/365 IT Operations or IT Data Centers or other Critical Facilities. Extensive practical experience in IT monitoring solutions for server health, complex networks and IT Security, such as load balancers, firewalls, IDS and IPS. Experience with standards & procedures and change management products. Experience with server administration (Linux & Windows) is a plus. Experience with IT process automation or workload automation is a plus.
