The person in this role will collaborate with the Division Head to conceive and develop projects and plans for diagnosis, therapy, and assessment of treatment response for HIV and other viral infections, perform assays and/or direct technical personnel in these efforts, and assist the Division Head in the widespread dissemination of results.General Duties:Independently design diagnostic droplet digital PCR assays and quantitative PCR assays, sequencing-based assays and other clinical and research assays, and determine assay performance and diagnostic utility.Collaborate in the design of therapeutic and interventional studies, to ensure appropriate experimental design and sample acquisition.Perform experiments with PCR technology, and develop assays, sequence development, analyze experimental data and determine what modifications and follow-up experiments are necessary to generate relevant data.Contribute data and analyses for grant submissions. Present data at laboratory meetings. Write manuscripts with Professor/Division Head for peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, and poster presentations.Contribute to and coordinate dissemination of program results beyond the scientific community; including but not limited to social media platforms.Consistently elicit support and cooperation from others when presenting ideas and concepts; facilitate group process to accomplish goals; demonstrate ability to persuade others to cooperate in achievement of plans.Develop appropriate and creative solutions and chooses best alternative; take action in a timely manner.Direct the work of staff so as to achieve optimum productivity; encourages or requires employee involvement in planning and organizing work.Effectively inform staff of policies, procedures, expectations, and objectives; solicits feedback from employees on an ongoing basis.Foster team effort and cooperation among staff members, both intra- and interdepartmentally.Participate in the interview process, train, provide performance feedback to management, and assign/check work of lower level staff.Demonstrate techniques and shares practical knowledge as needed with medical technology students, residents, post-doctoral fellows, research scientists, visiting scientists and new employees.Perform other duties as required.Requirements:Doctorate in Microbiology or closely related field, or relevant Masters and equivalent experience AND at least four years in related area or equivalent combination of education/experience. Additional Requirements:Experience in primer/probe design for PCR, collaborative project design, and understanding of basic viral biology.
