Projects for this position will often be focused on data infrastructure, systems, processes, and operation. However, this position will also be assigned projects focused on business analysis output, product evaluation/implementation, or custom software development.Projects, documentation, analysis and direct engagement with the Data Management Team (DMT) related to the maturation, implementation, and operations of Dean of Medicine IT data infrastructure. Data infrastructure is defined as the installed and configured services that support databases, analytics, and reporting as well as the standard associated with data security and management.The Project Manager will define business needs as well as assess impact, feasibility and cost. They will manage teams that develop solutions. The Project Manager will manage communications with (and expectations of) clients, leadership and support staff; address the competing interests of varied stakeholder groups; and work with UW and non-UW entities to obtain the right mix of internal/external services to meet client needs.This position will lead projects associated with information systems infrastructure upon which School of Medicine (SoM) business processes are dependent, including School of Medicine systems that:Manage cross-department functions.Provide infrastructure for Dean and UW Medicine decision support.Interface with UW Medicine systems.Projects assigned to the Project Manager will focus on:Improving the quality of data, systems and processes.Creating efficiencies.Reducing redundancy throughout the School in ways that will lead to economies of scale and cost savings.Improving data management systems, infrastructure, and practices internal to Dean of Medicine Information Technology.RESPONSIBILITIESProject ManagementLead and motivate teams that translate business needs into supportable technical solutions.Define stakeholders, objectives, scope, risks, and success criteria.Process business requirements documents. Develop infrastructure impact statements, feasibility studies, charters, work breakdown structures, resource assignment RACIs, risk management plans, communications plans, and change management plans.Manage the expectations of the project team, end users and sponsors.Define project schedules in units of trackable work that are understandable to business sponsors and as well as technical team members.Acquire technical and business leadership approvals at various project stage gates.Monitor project schedules - identifying and addressing project issues; escalating to management/administrative roles when necessary.Ensure work/product quality via incremental unit/system/integration testing.Manage project communications to include the sharing of team meeting minutes, project status reports, and issue/risk logs.Manage costs, budgets and vendor contracting per need.Establish and enforce change management.Ensure key project documents remain up-to-date throughout the project life cycle.Create and implement detailed Go Live Plans.Manage transition of project products from project teams to support teams.Discern and process lessons learned in ways that improve future work.Complete final project reports.Business Analysis and Quality AssuranceRepresent customer business needs throughout the project life cycle.Define and document business requirements with the necessary detail needed for design and project planning (elicit, analyze, specify, and validate functional/business requirements).Produce gap analysis reviews. Develop detailed use cases, detailed business requirements and test plans.Work with technical team members so that business requirements are properly represented in product design and technical renditions.Incrementally test systems in all stages of product development - using results to validate and refine development approach or business needs.Lead creation of: end user documentation; technical support documentation; business/technical support plans.Develop and provide clients with decision-making guidelines/structures and the data required to support making decisions.GeneralFoster and maintain cooperative relationships with a wide variety of internal and external business and technical partners.Maintain knowledge of existing SoM and UW business processes and systems and their relationships to client needs.Identify and recommend options for meeting needs via existing resources/systems vs. enhancing/creating systemsFollow and take part in forming sound norms for roles and process.Serve colleagues as a subject matter expert in business processes, systems and data sources which have become familiar.
