The 24/7 Areas (Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Intermediate Care Ward, Wards) Supervisor performs supervisory level administrative, operational, and related support for VMC on 2nd, 3rd, and week-end shifts. Coordinates the activities and supervises the technical and/or administrative staff in multiple service areas, including ER, ICU, Small Animal Wards, and Urgent Care. Provides and supervises the training of techniques, protocols and procedures to new and current staff. Works with other supervisors to identify areas of concern and finds solutions to problems. Upholds the mission, vision and values of the VMC, looking for ways to continuously improve customer service.
Contributes to the health and well being of patients by providing daily direction to staff to accomplish work goals; coordinates schedules, assigns responsibilities, provides clear direction, sets priorities, coordinates work, builds in accountability and monitors progress. Removes obstacles and provides resources. Answers questions and explains procedures and equipment for interns, senior veterinary students and student technicians. Will triage cases coming into Urgent Care and ER when there is a question of which Service the patient should be directed.
Interviews, hires, orients and trains 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift staff. Conducts annual reviews, sets performance goals, provides feedback and coaching to meet those goals. Develops staff skill levels.
Participates in the quality improvement efforts of the VMC via data collection, measuring results and reporting trends; surveys clients as directed.
Maintains accountability for inventory control of equipment and supplies within the service area. Maintain equipment and repair calls and report concern to day shift supervisor.
Supervises and provides infectious disease control and sanitation activities to insure a consistently clean working environment.
Additional Responsibilities • Participates in quarterly accountability and variance analysis of balanced scorecard outcomes. • Assures financial responsibility by maximizing efficiency on second and third shifts. • Collaborates with Service Area Supervisors for 24x7 staff schedules. • Collaborates with AMD. • Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards for all areas and individuals of authority. • Participates on committees, work groups, and/or process improvement teams that improve customer/client satisfaction. • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: BA/BS plus at least 4 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal seven years. Technical training (i.e. graduate of Veterinary Technician or equivalent program, certified as a MVMA/MAVT technician). Additional supervisory education and skills training required. Experience must include a minimum of 3 years experience within a veterinary care or similar health care related environment. Knowledge of veterinary medicine terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and handling of animals. Computer skills in work-processing, spreadsheets, and data entry. Working knowledge of equipment used in a veterinary teaching hospital. Thorough working knowledge of equipment used within area of specialization. Project management and meeting management skills. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
