Department: CHEMISTRY - 040070 Department Description: The Chemistry Department is a large and complex academic and research department located in the College of Letters and Science. The department has state and extramural funds with expenditures of approximately $28M annually including $8M in organized research. There are 33 staff members, 42 senate faculty, 4 continuing lecturers, many Federation appointees, Emeritus Faculty, Postdocs, Pre-Six Lecturers, and 250 graduate students and 750 undergraduate majors.

Job Summary: Working under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer of Chemistry, the Student Services Coordinator provides support to the student services team, coordinates the instructional/curriculum program, assigns teaching assistants, and assists with student recruitment events. This position operates with a high degree of organization and attention to detail. Responsibilities include: Following university regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to academic administration and budget monitoring.
Physical Demands: Lift, move and carry boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
Sit at computer and use mouse and keyboard for long periods of time.
Work Environment: Work in a demanding environment with multiple competing deadlines and frequent interruptions.
Work flexible and overtime during evenings, weekends and holidays to meet operational needs.
Restricted use of vacation during peak periods.

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of academic programs, requirements, and educational options.
Experience providing administrative and project management support to administrators.
Experience coordinating domestic and international travel.
Skill to pay attention to detail, recognize discrepancies and make appropriate and accurate corrections.
Organizational skills to work independently including initiative and ability to set priorities; ability to organize work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous projects.
Ability to quickly learn new computer applications.
Interpersonal skills to clearly and effectively interact with people of varying ages and cultural backgrounds, in person and in writing; ability to clarify situations and resolve problems; ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, especially to resolve disagreements and conflicts.
Experience writing and editing documents and correspondence for accuracy, consistency of format and grammar, and professional appearance and style.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with UC policies, procedures and systems including Banner, IPA, ICMS, Verba Collect, AggieTravel.
Knowledge and skill to interpret and apply UC and campus policies and procedures, especially pertaining to academic affairs, travel, and entertainment.
Familiarity with campus-wide offices, administrative contacts, campus structures, policies, and resources.
