MSET Desk Strategists are the ultimate owners of Morgan Stanley's agency execution platforms. They bear regulatory and financial responsibility for the proper functioning of these engines in the listed marketplace. A key component of ensuring competitiveness of the firm's agency execution platforms is the ability to work with our electronic clients to understand their specific trading needs and provide tools that are fit for purpose. This document describes the responsibilities of the specialised algorithms component of the MSET Desk Strategists group.
The trading environment continues to change rapidly and our clients' investment objectives change to suit the prevailing market. The specialised algorithm component of MSET Desk Strategists acts as execution consultants for the firm's clients delivering customised execution strategies and products for listed instruments across multiple asset classes and regions. In conjunction with MSET sales, the group designs trading products that extend the Firm's electronic trading suite. The group is responsible for the development and behaviour of these products.
Specific areas of focus include:
Understand the client investment decision (and associated work flow) and create execution algorithms to service the business. This includes recommending alternative execution mechanisms that meet the client objectives.
Prioritise multiple tasks to maximise MSET revenue (PBT).
Build a robust and efficient MSET specialised algorithmic platform that enables algorithm reselling.
Utilise deep understanding of financial markets to spot opportunities for clients that would generate PBT.
Partner with clients and MSET coverage to provide transparency of the real-time performance of each algorithm.
Risk assess and manage each specialised algorithm.
Project manage any practice area dependency. This includes ensuring all specialised algorithms interact correctly with other firm systems and the application support group (ASG) can cover the majority of support/production issues.
Understanding trading behaviour changes required in response to market structure changes and special market events.

Experience in developing front office systems
