Job Description Summary
The Associate Director will be an experienced student affairs professional responsible for working with the Director in managing initiatives in support of the centerâ™s intercultural mission. The position includes over sight of intercultural courses and signature programs, budget/project management/staff supervision. Associate Director also advises student leaders to support organizational needs and strengthen leadership skills. Some evening and weekend hours necessary.
Duties include but not limited to:
Support of the Director in the management of the facility, including oversight of staff,
Support of student organizations affiliated with the center and providing leadership in designing, implementing and assessing leadership initiatives,
Collaboration with Penn Admissions and Alumni Relations in supporting relevant yearly activities with regard to recruitment of students and engagement with alumni,
Assistance in the design and implementation of assessment tools to help determine efficacy of center initiatives and contribute to writing of annual report,
Support in supervise of graduate interns and student assistants in project related activities. Coaching graduate interns in their professional development process,
Assistance to the Director in budget management and in decision making with regard to allocation of resources,
Oversight of the centerâ™s communications team and leadership in designing communications and marketing strategies to enhance visibility of center,
Outreach and collaboration with campus partners in development and implementation of innovative programs to support Penn diverse student population,
Other duties as defined.
A Masterâ™s degree in Social Work, Counseling or Student Affairs preferred and 5 to 7 years of experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must have excellent advising skills, with a sensitivity to the needs of diverse student groups. Demonstrated experience in developing, administering and assessing courses, programs and other center offerings. Must have outstanding writing and presentation skills and a high level of organization and management skills. Ability to prepare and present reports to varied audiences. Associate Director is also expected to have some supervisory, budgetary and facility management skills and will follow all University procedures and protocols in these and other administrative areas. The Associate Director must be collaborative, flexible and be able to work productively with a broad range of constituents. Strong knowledge of technology and assessment tools is preferred. The ability to help foster a positive and productive working environment between staff and students is critical. Associate Director must be able to work flexible schedule that include some evenings and weekends.
