Holy Family Ministries is a not-for-profit organization serving over 600 children from Chicago's underserved west side. Our four educational programs include Holy Family School (K-8), Little Learners Academy (Pre-k) Adventures in Learning (out-of-school-time program), and The Peace Exchange (teen leadership development). Our programs operate from the Holy Family Ministries Center in North Lawndale. This position will primarily work out of our Advancement office in Northbrook
Under the guidance of the Director of Development and the Chief Development Officer, the Events & Communications Manager is responsible for:
1) The everyday project management and full scale execution of Holy Family Ministries’ two major fundraising events, along with several smaller fundraising and stewardship events throughout the year.
2) The management and expansion of social media and digital fundraising platforms.
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends with an expanded workload during scheduled events.
Manages the coordination and implementation for two major fundraising galas (April and November) with 240 – 260 guests. These events include a dinner, program, live and silent auctions, and a raffle. The Manager will be the primary support for a volunteer committee comprised of board members and donors to Holy Family. The Manager will communicate and contract with all vendors, coordinate assistance needed from staff members in the weeks prior to the event and the day-of-event, produce all event printed material, manage all logistics the day of the event, maintain accurate financial records, and prepare post-event reporting.
The Manager will also coordinate and manage several smaller stewardship and fundraising events throughout the year. These events typically do not include auctions or raffles, and are opportunities to meet with small groups of donors.
Manage the Facebook and Instagram social media sites with engaging posts and status updates to effectively engage donors, volunteers and other stakeholders.
Respond to social media questions and comments in a timely manner, and monitor posts for inappropriate content
Assist the website task force team in their efforts to work with a web company to re-design the current website
Keep website content current, and keep the appearance of the site user-friendly, professional and attractive
Successful performance of the above tasks offers the right person the opportunity to potentially assist in the performance of additional Marketing and Communications tasks including:
Assist Directors in management of the organizational Communications Calendar
Work in tandem with our Graphic Designer to manage the organization's donor communications projects (print and electronic).
Assist with assessing the effectiveness of social media and website, where applicable
Explore media and press outlets to place stories about special events
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 2 years prior experience managing large (200+ guests) fundraising special events / 3 or more years preferred
Current experience in a broad range of development, social media, and communications, and familiarity with graphic design
Working knowledge of software applications including Word, Excel, Constant Contact, Photoshop and Publisher
Excellent editorial eye for layout and design for print and web projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment
Strong judgment with the ability to adapt and respond to change
Familiar with donor management database. Experience with Results Plus a plus
Experience working with an online auction/mobile bidding company/Auction & Event Solutions (AES) a plus
Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to excellence
Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
Valid driver’s license and access to a car required
Capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
