SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Engineering Superintendent, the Plant Engineer provides professional level engineering and project management support as required to assure optimum plant reliability, efficiency, and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following; other duties may be assigned. Conducts performance tests to collect data from plant equipment and systems. Evaluates andreports findings and makes recommendations for improvements, replacements, or repairs.Investigates equipment failures, analyzes high maintenance equipment or systems, and develops recommendations for improvements, replacements or repairs to prevent future failures.Supervises contract workers and/or acts as Contract Coordinator on capital projects, as required.Prepares project scope descriptions, cost estimates, man hour estimates, material lists, technicaldrawings, and payback analysis.Performs plant equipment/system inspections and makes recommendations to increase efficiency, availability and reliability.Reviews, evaluates and recommends actions on Manufacturers Service Bulletins (i.e. AIBs, PSBs) and other publications related to equipment operation, safety and efficiency.

Education and Experience:
Plant Engineer I - ($72,902 - $113,072): A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil or Nuclear Engineering is required. Entry level power generation engineer who provides technical and engineering support for daily operations, plant improvements, equipment acquisitions, plant breakdown analysis, outages and upgrades, and basic project design. Works under the guidance of a more experienced engineer.
Plant Engineer II - ($80,408 - $126,031): A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil or Nuclear Engineering and three (3) years of directly related experience in power plant design, operation or maintenance are required. Performs generation engineering work pertaining to the mechanical and/or electrical operation and maintenance of a power plant. Provides engineering support for operations, plant improvements, design changes, equipment acquisition, planned and unplanned outages, and analysis of operational or maintenance issues. Monitors and directs the design of new systems or the modification of existing systems to support the mechanical and electrical operation of the power plant. Gathers and evaluates data on power plant systems and components. Prepares project management documents, project budgets and closes out projects. Gathers and maintains cost information.
Plant Engineer III - ($88,257 - $139,797): A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, or Nuclear Engineering and five (5) years of directly related experience in power plant design, operation or maintenance are required. Performs the more complex engineering work pertaining to the mechanical and/or electrical operation and maintenance of a power plant. Provides engineering support for operations, plant improvements, design changes, equipment acquisitions, planned and unplanned outages, and analysis of operational or maintenance issues. Monitors and directs the design of new systems or the modification of existing systems to support the mechanical and electrical operation of the power plant. Gathers and evaluates data on power plant systems and components. Prepares project management documents, project budgets and closes out projects. Gathers and maintains cost information.
Senior Plant Engineer - ($96,440 - $154,379):A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil or Nuclear Engineering, and ten (10) years of directly related experience in power plant design, operation or maintenance. Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) is also required. Provides professional level engineering support for plant systems and projects to ensure the economical, reliable, safe and efficient plant operation. Acts as team leader or project coordinator as required. Provides engineering support for operations, plant improvements, design changes, equipment acquisitions, planned and unplanned outages, and analysis of operational or maintenance issues. Plans major projects, maintains project records and monitors project budget. Acts as mentor to other levels of engineering staff.
Language Skills:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry codes and standards, general business periodicals, professional journals and publications, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, calculus and differential equations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:Requires two years' experience operating personal computers using the following or equivalent software: Visual Basic, Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project. Experience with turbine or boiler modeling programs is desirable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: This position requires a current driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Additional work scheduled and unscheduled outside of normal hours will be required. May be asked to travel on short notice.

About Western Farmers Electric Cooperative
