Position Summary: Senior DevOps/Infrastructure Engineer will support the growing suite of digital curation and preservation services offered by the University of California Curation Center (UC3, http://www.cdlib.org/uc3) at the California Digital Library (CDL), an administrative unit of the University of California Office of the President (UCOP).
UC3, one of the world's premier digital curation programs, is a creative partnership between the CDL, the ten UC campuses, and the international curation community, providing innovative services and solutions to ensure the long-term usability of the University's digital content. UC3 currently supports major applications (Dash, DMPTool, Merritt, and EZID), each with parallel instances (dev, stage, production), running on over 60 servers in Amazon AWS, with 200 TB of dedicated, diverse cloud storage systems.
The Senior DevOps Infrastructure Engineer will be involved in operational support and system-level administration of UC3's AWS cloud infrastructure. Working closely with UC3 technical staff and product managers for server provisioning, application deployment and monitoring; the central CDL Infrastructure and Application Services (IAS) group for server configuration, patching, package administration, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning; and less frequently, central UCOP Information Technology Services (ITS) for infrastructure planning and review.
Reporting to the UC3 development manager, the Senior DevOps Infrastructure Engineer will be an enthusiastic member of a dynamic team applying advanced software concepts, techniques, and objectives to plan, create, maintain, enhance, and operate robust, high-availability (16x7) services responsive to the evolving needs of UC3 stakeholders. These services will provide for the streamlined acquisition, long-term preservation, effective discovery, and practical use of diverse digital resources and TB-scale collections.

Job Close Date:
Monitor, triage, and intervene to ensure high-performance, high-availability (16x7) of UC3 service offerings. Work with CDL Infrastructure and Application Services (IAS) to define appropriate monitors and escalation responses using CDL's enterprise Nagios system, and backup/recovery services for business continuity. Collaborate with product managers on diagnosing user-reported problems. Develops conversion and system implementation plans. (The percentage of time expended on this responsibility may be expected to expand over time due to ongoing operational efficiencies and infrastructural hardening and automation.)
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. 5+ years' experience in software development required.
Demonstrated experience and skills in diagnosing and resolving application-level, operating system, database, storage, and networking problems.
Demonstrated experience and skills in designing, implementing, and operating high-performance, high-availability system and storage architectures for mission critical online services.
Demonstrated software repository skills.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines Ability to work on and triage multiple high-priority tasks. Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with key infrastructural technologies, including AWS EC2 and RDS/MySQL, Amazon Linux, Shibboleth, LDAP, Nagios, and Bash shell scripting.
Familiarity with relevant technologies, including Tomcat, Solr, OpenStack Swift cloud storage, Qumulo, NFS, SSL/certificates, Git, and continuous integration tools such as Jenkins and Travis CI.
Experience with agile software development using Java/J2SE, Python or Ruby/ Rails.
Understanding of digital curation, preservation, and library concepts, policies, and practices. Preferred
