Join one the nation’s premier community health centers to help establish and lead AdvancingPractice, a one-year residency program to train advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to care for patients in underserved communities. In this role you will develop and implements the women’s health curriculum
AdvancingPractice incorporates classroom and clinic components to prepare recently-graduated nurse practitioners and midwives to become top caliber clinicians as well as nursing leaders in community health. This new and exciting program, funded by the US Health Resources and Services Administration allows you to be a leader in the national movement on APRN professional development and create an interprofessional model for APRN post-graduate training. You will also care for patients and precept AdvancingPractice residents. Note:This role is only open to Certified Nurse Midwives.
AdvancingPractice Women’s Health Leadership
Lead collaboration with University of Illinois at Chicago-College of Nursing (UIC-CON) to create competency-driven curriculum for AdvancingPractice Certified Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners
Identify presenters and other educational resources for didactic portions of the program.
Partner with UIC-CON to systematically evaluate women’s health curriculum components and identify and implement changes as needed.
Assist in developing selection criteria for, recruiting and selecting Certified Nurse Midwife residents and preceptors.
Provide ongoing support, mentorship, training and evaluation for Certified Nurse Midwife residents and preceptors.
Partners with Northwestern Medicine to establish, plan and evaluate inpatient women’s health experience.
Collaborate with existing Erie training programs and develop structures for interprofessional learning.
Participate in Residency Advisory Council to assess progress on overall residency program objectives and address challenges as they arise.
Continuously and systematically communicate successes and challenges to Residency Program Director and recommend and implement corrective actions.
Participate in all residency orientation, team-building, training and evaluation activities.
Act as a nurse midwife alongside an interdisciplinary team offering integrated services.
Partner with area hospitals to offer our patients imaging and specialty care.
Provide ongoing coaching, teaching and evaluation of residents.
Serve as a role model in offering safe and compassionate patient care, effective documentation etc.
Education and Experience:
MSN or DNP from accredited institution, licensed APRN in Illinois
Board Certified in Midwifery
Minimum of two years’ experience as a certified nurse midwife
Curriculum development and evaluation experience preferred
Active CPR Certification
Commitment to increasing number of APRNs working in underserved communities.
Excellent organizational, supervisory, leadership and project management skills
Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with residents, partners, clinical staff, managers and directors.
Ability to lead diverse teams to meet program objectives
Creative, energetic, self-starter
Working knowledge of PC using Microsoft products such as Word and Power Point in a Windows operating environment
Interest in and comfort with working with diverse patient population
Knowledge of or interest in learning medical Spanish
