The School of Music at the University of Washington announces a full-time vocal performance position as Artist in Residence on a three-year contract to begin September 16, 2020. The appointment will be renewable. The term of service annually is 9 months. The individual selected will be required to build and sustain a successful vocal studio, to have an active role in the organization/administration and further development of the Vocal Performance Program, and to have continued growth in a national/international career as an artist with a demonstrated commitment to music ranging from the early masterworks to experimental contemporary genres to other international genres. The individual should also be highly interested in collaborations with other areas within the School of Music and beyond the School such as with the Department of Digital Arts and Experimental Media.
Responsibilities: Private instruction in vocal performance at the undergraduate and graduate levels; recruitment of voice students; coaching chamber music and improvisation; teaching pedagogy and repertoire courses; participation in auditions, juries, student advising, administrative work with Vocal Performance colleagues, all pertinent School of Music meetings and other responsibilities as assigned by the Director. UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) and/or significant professional experience. Examples of significant professional experience may include: 5 years of extensive performing experience in a variety of settings (solo recitals, chamber music, opera/theater); 2 years experience teaching at the university level.
