Develops effective marketing and communications strategies, plans, programs and materials of a specialized and complex nature for a university publication or communications department.
Develop high-quality written and/or digital content for university public relations, marketing and communication platforms including UMSL Daily, UMSL Magazine, university websites, newsletters and presentations, and UMSL social media channels.
Interview students, faculty, administrators, staff and alumni and creates informative stories of the students, faculty, staff and alumni that show the impact UMSL has on the students who attend as well as the greater St. Louis region and beyond.
Initiate external media coverage of campus activities, programs and people - including creation of news releases and targeted pitch letters/emails/calls.
Contribute content to UMSL's social media channels - Facebook, Instagram and Twitter - with the authority to post, respond and engage with audiences on behalf of the university; contributes to related monitoring, listening, assessment, escalation and crisis communication.
Work collaboratively with news and photography staff to develop content while providing oversight of MarCom graduate assistant.
Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Possesses strong writing skills
Possesses conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within the Communications function
Applies general knowledge of the organization and communications techniques developed through education and experiences
Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a public relations, journalism or a related field and have a portfolio of work that may be submitted with application.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
