The College of Art and Design offers programs within five schools: Art, Crafts, Design, Film and Animation, and Photography. Detailed Job Description
The College of Art and Design invites qualified individuals to apply to join the Facilities support team as the Digital Fabrication Specialist for the College. Teamwork, collaboration, sharing of resources and backup support are core to the operational success of this team. This position reports to the Operations Manager for the Schools of Art and Design.
Digital Fabrication Specialist responsibilities include:
The management of all aspects of the College of Art and Design's Digital Fabrication Lab, related services, and equipment.
Overseeing and managing the daily operation of all College of Art and Design digital fabrication resources, in addition to equipment housed directly within the Fabrication Lab. This also includes CNC Routers, CNC Plasma Cutters, 3D printers and related equipment found in other studios throughout the college.
Direct supervision and management of approximately 10-15 student employees. Includes hiring, scheduling, and evaluating.
Management and maintenance of all digital fabrication facilities and equipment. This includes troubleshooting, evaluating, and basic preventative maintenance and repairs as necessary.
Working with manufacturers and vendors to modify and upgrade equipment, processes, and workflow as technology and needs evolve. This includes the testing and implementation of new materials and supplies.
Providing instruction, training, and demonstrations to students, faculty and staff, either individually or for entire classes on 3D modeling (CAD) to digital output. Methods, workflow, design constraints, materials selection, troubleshooting, etc.
Maintaining workflow policies and documenting procedures for the lab and lab operation. Monitoring, managing and maintaining a ticket ordering system, and overseeing and managing monetary transactions for all jobs.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Industrial/Product Design, Mechanical Engineering/Tech., OR equivalent experience.
Managerial experience with makerspaces, fabrication shops, or similar.
Competent with computers, peripherals, digital fabrication equipment and related support software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, self-motivated, and organized with good attention to detail.
1-3 years of professional experience in CAD/CAM field.
1-2 years of instructional experience with tertiary-level educational institutions or similar.
Comprehension of principal programming languages including G-code, Objective-C, HTML/CSS, or similar.
