The Senior Associate Director of Student Accounts is a dedicated professional and an integral part of the Student Financial Services team at The New School. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring departmental standard and goals are attained. The Senior Associate Director will assist in the administration of Student Accounts services, providing leadership for cashiering and business operations including: invoicing, collections, system upgrade maintenance, validation testing, student refunds in accordance with Title IV guidelines, all related accounting operations, and handling a variety of accounts and billing inquiries. Reporting to the Director of Student Accounts, the Senior Associate Director is a senior leader on the Student Financial Services team.
Manage annual and term tuition charging routine and testing on Banner system as a result of upgrades and term start up.
Assist in the tuition billing process utilizing Banner, SQL and BRIO queries to identify billing populations.
Analyze and implement procedures for collecting and cleaning data using Ellucian Banner database, Hype-rion Brio and Tableau reporting tool.
Directly manage Assistant Director of Collections, and Third Party/Perkins coordinator serving as a next-level manager responsible for the escalation of student concerns from service provision for the Student Accounts unit.
Create, implement and monitor error reporting for all Student Accounts related processes.
Design, execute, and document system upgrades, maintenance, requirements and validation testing.
Serve as project manager for a portion of all of Student Accounts related system upgrades, policy changes, project management, research, testing and implementation and University wide initiatives.
Work directly with Budget and Finance to resolve reconciliation of accounts including loans and student refunds.
In consultation with the Director of Student Accounts, oversee TouchNet tuition payment plans for both current degree seeking student's and collections past due payment plans and implement TouchNet updates, monitor data maintenance and new update pack features.
Work directly with students regarding billing, collections, payment plan problems, and reconciling any account issues while implementing excellent customer service to all constituents.
Assist with internal and external auditor request; including data compilation and analysis.
Assist with 1098-T reporting and compliance and serve as the point of contact for all IRS 1098T form inquiries from parents, students, and IRS.
Oversee the Federal Perkins Loan program reporting, maintain compliance with write offs and bad debt re-covery, Entrance and Exit interview proc, MPN submission and accurate financial reporting to the Office of Business & Finance.
Collaborate with Financial Aid and Registrar to facilitate communication and management of Banner system and student record updates to ensure accuracy, data integrity and effective business processes.
Assist Director with the development and implementation of office communication plan.
BA/BS in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
At least 5 years of related experience.
Significant student account experience in progressively responsible positions.
Thorough knowledge of best accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of FERPA regulations.
Excellent planning, organizational, delegation, team building, verbal and written communication skills required.
Knowledge of Excel and Brio in order to quantify and illustrate financial reports, comparisons, impacts and/or projections.
Experience with SCT Banner a plus.
Knowledge and understanding of federal cash management regulations.
Excellent judgment, problem-solving, diplomacy and discretion with the ability to manage confidential information.
Ability to work well cross-functionally and influence across the organization.
Strong and effective interpersonal skills including the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.
