Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvaniaâ™s Development and Alumni Relations Marketing and Communications (DARMAX) Department is responsible for conceiving and executing communications strategies to advance the goals of Pennâ™s Development and Alumni Relations office (DAR) and the mission of the University.
The Digital Media Specialist is responsible for implementing web and social media plans, including creating and editing short motion graphics and videos, and developing other innovative social media strategies in support of DAR and the Campaign. This position is responsible for implementing aspects of the marketing strategy for regional Campaign events, including strategic use of mass-emails, web presence, and dynamic social media posts. This position supports maintenance of the Campaign Website as directed by the Director, Digital Communications.
The position requires a high level of creativity, proficiency in storytelling through social-media appropriate content, video and photography, other visual means, and technical capability to use in-house video editing software. Technical skill in graphic design is a bonus but not crucial. This position reports to the Director of Digital Communications in DARMAX and will work closely with colleagues in the Graphic Design department, the Strategic Writing team, and the Campaign Office.
Implement creative projects, collaborating as needed with DAR colleagues in schools, centers and central units, to develop robust content for social media marketing campaigns and the website in support of the Power of Penn Campaignâ”including use of motion graphics, podcasts, photography, and virtual tours to enhance the audience experience.
Create regular content for the Power of Penn website highlighting Campaign impact across the university.
Support upkeep of the campaign website as directed by the Director, Digital Communications.
Participate in developing and implementing strategies for marketing alumni events and other campaign-related regional events, including driving web traffic and social media in coordination with an email campaign. Strategies will include capturing and strategically utilizing video, audio, and photography at the events.
BA/BS. Five to seven years of communications experience, with special focus on social media, email, and web communications, and in utilizing video and other visual elements creatively through these platforms.
Experience in managing social media channels for a development organization.
Proficiency in After Effects, and ability to create and edit short videos appropriate to social media use required.
Technical skill in graphic design a plus.
Experience in education development and alumni relations highly beneficial.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, highly demanding projects; to establish and meet deadlines.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high degree of competency and comfort in interacting with people at all levels of professional distinction.
