TAX SPECIALIST , Office of the Vice President for Finance-Tax and Global Operations (TGO) , to join the team charged with supporting the Institute's tax advisory, planning, compliance, and reporting needs. Will research emerging issues and develop, document, and initiate program/processes in response; assist with overseeing compliance; help manage MIT's overall income tax position; provide support on tax analysis of foreign country rules/regulations; help develop administrative practices/policies/procedures/structural changes/systems; make presentations; assist with tax audit responses; monitor/review/assess relevant tax law changes and their impact; help develop/train/mentor junior team members; and perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field; at least three years' work experience in a business (tax, accounting, or finance) environment; knowledge of local, state, federal, and/or international tax reporting requirements; ability to conduct independent tax research, including IRS code, regulations, rulings, and case law; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced setting with strict deadlines; excellent analytical, project management, problem-solving, team-building, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills; discretion, tact, and good judgment with highly sensitive/confidential information; ability to collaborate in a consensus-driven environment; high-level proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; flexibility; and willingness to pitch in to complete all tasks. PREFERRED : CPA, MSA, MST, MBA, or JD; knowledge of and experience with a majority of tax-exempt organization tax returns (Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, 990-T, 1023); experience with tax-efficient investment structures including securities and investment tax transactions and real estate transaction tax; experience with charitable gifts and charitable trust tax reporting; and understanding of higher education budget and planning processes, endowment and gift accounting, and research award process.
