Conceive and create highly functional website experiences, working collaboratively with University Communications' web designers, user experience specialists, and content strategists. Develop websites, website features, and applications, writing code to make these experiences a reality. Administer the college's public website cloud infrastructure.
Essential Job Functions:
Share and create a vision for how to build, structure, and deliver key new website functionality as well as enhance the functionality of existing websites. Write flexible and elegant code to deliver functionality that meets creative vision and requirements.
Configure, customize, and extend the college's public website content management systems to meet the evolving needs of the University Communications' web designers, user experience specialists, and content strategists.
Provide vision for and directly manage the college's public website cloud infrastructure, monitoring performance, establishing and optimizing integrations between various web- and data-related services, as well as providing technical coordination with cloud hosting provider and other vendors.
Identify and fix issues related to website availability, in concert with cloud providers. Perform other duties as assigned.
Advise campus offices and departments on digital platform selections that complement existing infrastructures and web service integrations, as well as dovetail with general best practices in the digital space.
Perform other duties as required.
An Associate's Degree.
4-6+ years of experience in planning and architecting complex website functionality.
4-6+ years of experience with web programming languages such as PHP as well as with web application frameworks. Strong familiarity with the architecture of open-source content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress.
Experience with version control software and build/package managers such as Git, NPM, Gulp, and Webpack.
Experience in configuring and administering LAMP server environments (Linux, Apache/Nginx, MySQL, PHP) as well as a working knowledge of SSL/TLS, caching systems, and general performance tuning principles.
Experience and expertise in writing SQL queries to extract and/or modify data from databases such as MySQL.
Resourceful problem solver with a strong attention to detail and commitment to thorough testing and documentation.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a technology-related curriculum. Strong background in testing and debugging, working with team members and end users on website issues.
Ability to work with outside developers and vendors, providing timely coordination and support services.
Experience in setting up and configuring quality assurance and analysis services, including but not limited to traffic analytics, performance tuning, and load testing.
Experience with Python and other scripting languages for administrative purposes.
