Department: UNIVERSITY EXTENSION - 027025 Department Description: UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the academic division of the university dedicated to workforce and career development. CPE helps professional working adults upskill, reskill and advance their careers. CPE partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis, and also works with employers and local experts to develop programs targeted to regional needs for economic development. More than 1,500 professionals teach in a wide array of specialized practice domains, including outstanding faculty from across UC Davis. Last year, CPE recorded nearly 62,000 enrollments in more than 4,200 classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master's degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. CPE also manages the university's relationship with Coursera, a leading MOOC platform, and has taught hundreds of thousands of students through this partnership. CPE is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. CPE employs over 230 employees (career, academic, contract and limited) and more than 60 student employees.

Job Summary: Under general direction of the Assistant Dean, serves as lead ID/expert responsible for learner engagement design and technologies in all academic programs (degree/non-degree), and leads the ID team responsible for CPE's graduate program initiative. Provides guidance, supervision, and direction to other Instructional Designers on the degree team, ensuring adherence to ID best practices. Provides overall project management of graduate degree deliverables in consultation with Manager, Design and Development on content production needs and use of shared media services. Provides high level analysis, technical skills and planning of instructional technology and evaluation. Consults with faculty to understand their vision for their course, and assists faculty to develop quality content, assessments, assignments, cases, and simulations appropriate for graduate-level learners.
Using advanced technical skills, advises on learner engagement design and development across the CPE portfolio, and selects/implements new tools and technologies for institutional use. Oversees ADA/WCAG 2.0/universal design requirements pertaining to eLearning/educational technology. Specifically applies technical and pedagogical expertise related to the best use of learning management systems and tools for high-level learner interaction. Works with other teaching and learning groups on campus to expand the acceptance, utilization, and capabilities of Continuing and Professional (CPE) Online, online graduation programs, and other Learning Management Systems.
Stays up-to-date on latest education and educational technology, and actively engages peer institutional networks to ensure CPE's capacities remain current with trends. Manages faculty development efforts for online courses. Plans and prioritizes faculty training, conducts workshops both online and in-person.

Minimum Qualifications: -Master's Degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related discipline and/or equivalent experience. -Experience in the use of current instructional design principles and models, and instructional design process for higher education, professional and continuing education audiences. -Ability to lead faculty, staff, and other stakeholders in this process. -Experience leading complex online learning projects utilizing multiple resources and people to successful completion, including redesigning traditional classroom courses for online delivery; integrating advances in media into the design, development, and implementation of learning applications; editing faculty-generated content. -Demonstrated proficiency in using instructional technology for design and development of online courses and course assets, including but not limited to: Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, ability to learn others) and interactive tools (e.g., Play Posit). Ability to teach faculty and staff effective use of LMSs. -Familiarity with adult learning strategies, theories, and models such as ADDIE, SAM, Keller's ARCS, Bloom's Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick's Levels of Evaluation, etc. Ability to teach faculty and staff these concepts. -Experience in designing graduate courses and active learning activities for a graduate level audience. -Experience applying instructional technology in innovative ways to design effective learning and teaching solutions in order to advance student engagement and learning. -Experience incorporating ADA design and development standards for web based delivery into online course content development. Familiarity with the concept of universal design. -Experience in leading and facilitating learning strategy, design, and development meetings with faculty. -Experience developing, conducting, and analyzing surveys, interviews, and information while synthesizing ideas and integrating information that results in a holistic versus fragmented perspective and action. -Experience integrating multimedia into web-based courses and familiarity with tools used to produced web-based materials, such as: Digital Video, Graphics, and Audio Editing Software (Premiere, Final Cut, Photoshop); Web Editing (Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS); e-Learning authoring Tools (Adobe Captivate, Presenter, Articulate); Web-conferencing software (Zoom, Adobe Connect, Google Hangouts). -Superior communication (oral, written, presentation, documentation) and interpersonal skills and professional poise to facilitate meetings and interact with diverse stakeholder groups using tact and diplomacy. -Experience in strategic planning, analytical and program evaluation in order to provide recommendations to key decision makers. -Experience in managing multiple projects, deadlines, and resolving issues. -Proficient in storyboarding, educational and multimedia script-writing, and editing faculty-generated content. -Experienced in project management and productivity tools such as Word, Excel, Basecamp, and MS Project. -Exceptional customer service skills including the ability to remain positive and professional when dealing with colleagues and clients.
Preferred Qualifications: -Experience identifying and documenting potential problems, risks, and opportunities without assistance and recommending solutions. Innovative problem solving that supports business issues. -Experience with interface design principles to facilitate instructional effectiveness and user friendliness as well as preparing design documents, communications, and proposals in this area of expertise. -Educational background and experience in the use of learning theory, preferably cognitive learning theory, or similar contemporary theories around teaching and learning. -In-depth understanding of production processes for video, programming, and graphic design. -Experience with leading edge performance technology design concepts and practices. -Experience resolving complex problems without assistance and anticipating and managing risks in area of expertise. -Experience with prototype testing. -Experience performing program and facilities analyses and evaluation of technical operations. -Experience in performing analysis to establish project tasks, and deadline requirements. -Proficient in a variety of project management tools and systems. -Experience with MOOCs on platforms such as Coursera. -Proficient screencasting ability in order to create training videos for faculty, staff, and students as required. -Experience designing, coordinating, presenting, and facilitating interactive workshops for both face-to-face and online (webinar format) audiences.
