Job Description Summary Bentley University is looking for a highly technical, creative, and motivated senior leader to work with the community to identify the current and future needs for enterprise business analytics and reporting, then develop an overall strategy which should include technical solutions and required integrations to support the plan. The ideal candidate will possess current subject matter expertise and knowledge of emerging trends and technologies, along with business savvy and strong communications skills. He/she must be capable of leading the organization to a defined future state, working collaboratively with University leadership, faculty, staff, and students to develop clear program goals and objectives. The Executive Director will work closely with the CIO, Director of Application Support, Deputy CIO, the Cloud Program Director, the Director of Academic Technologies, the Enterprise Architect, the Director of Cloud Operations and Director for Institutional Research and other leaders at Bentley, to ensure that data requirements, needs and priorities are understood. The Executive Director will both lead and participate in developing a strategic plan for the data warehouse and data analytics environment.
Establish and manage a formal university data management and business intelligence strategy leveraging prior work, as well as a comprehensive roadmap for the data warehouse data governance and business analytics which identifies requirements, tools, and resources needed to support the plan.
Work with the CIO and others in the Bentley community to develop, refine, and prioritize the university's Reporting & Analytics capabilities and requirements.
Identify new opportunities pertaining to the use of data to support, and enhance the student experience and delivery of services. Support the University's strategy and provide mentorship and advice to leadership on data related needs or issues.
In collaboration with university leadership, develop the Business intelligence strategy and program plan for launching Bentley's future Reporting & Analytics vision, including appropriate milestones, deliverables, and other program outcomes and commitments.
Provide technical and operational direction for the Data warehouse and the data Integration team. Lead engagement with university leadership, faculty, staff, and others to determine current state issues, future state needs, develop priorities and roadmap of services related to the technology and an analytics environment.
In partnership with the Director of the Cloud Program, Director of Networks, ISO, Enterprise Architect, and Director of DMAS, lead the development and management of a coherent data architecture, including the management of application data security and data integration best practices, to meet the reporting needs of the organization synthesizing multiple data sources via SaaS, Cloud and on-premise applications.
Serve as a liaison between IT and various university offices to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting and securing sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated and embedded in operational processes.
Partner and communicate with various department data owners to develop a data governance framework that supports enterprise reporting and analytic requirements.
Partner with the Director of DMAS to inventory the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems, owners, and data definitions.
Participate with ISO and the Director of DMAS in conducting annual vendor contract reviews to ensure SLAs and data security requirements are met or exceeded.
Lead the current DMAS reporting and integrations team to (a) deliver the information products required by the university's various departments, and (b) incrementally plan and implement the various pieces that comprise the Reporting & Analytics vision.
Engage and lead Bentley resources and vendors (as appropriate) to develop functional and technical requirements, pilots, and proofs-of-concepts designed to clarify capabilities and determine the feasibility of various products and technologies.
Develop an appropriate product/tools strategy that balances: (a) the ongoing need to deliver information products to meet community needs, (b) cost optimization, (c) ongoing IT strategy, and (d) the need to reach a different end state through an orderly transition.
7+ years of experience leading, architecting, implementing and managing enterprise Data Warehouse and reporting environments to provide senior leadership with appropriate decision-making tools.
Prior experience in management including budgeting and people management.
Outstanding background in data analysis tools and methods, and familiarity with ETL processes and data warehouse/data lake development.
Knowledge of cloud-based analytics tools and data management environments.
Strong data modelling and data analysis skills
Strong database skills including Oracle, SQL.
Solid command of data management principles, data design concepts, and relational database management systems.
Solid command of current data warehouse, reporting and analytics concepts and technologies.
Solid understanding of application and data security practices.
Experience with information analytical reporting tools.
Experience with application and data security.
Proven experience in developing and managing teams, as well as coaching and mentoring team members.
Deliver best practice in all areas of enterprise data management, governance, and reporting & analytics.
Demonstrated ability to develop a strong, motivated, customer focused, and highly productive team that delivers on its commitments.
Practical experience with implementing current enterprise reporting and analytics concepts, products, and tools in a large or medium size environment (higher education experience preferred but not required).
Proven ability to balance day-to-day (operational) work with project work to achieve client satisfaction and project goals.
Excellent (written and verbal) communication skills and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge and/or experiences with Informatica, Cognos, Microsoft Azure Data Warehousing, Tableau, Power BI, , Workday
Ability to interact with leadership with trends observed and collaborate on strategic actions steps and work with all levels of the organization to ensure that expectations and outcomes are met.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer science or a related field. Masters in analytics, informatics, computer science or management information systems a plus.
Relevant experience with application support and data management in higher education.
Knowledge of information analytics solutions and implementations within higher education and ability to see, articulate, and help shape the future of information analytics.
Excellent people skills in the delivery of IT related projects and experience managing and mentoring information analytics and data warehouse development team.
Ability to independently plan, organize, and control the activities of multiple, large scale, cross functional project teams and manage difficult situations within tight project time frames.
Proven experience designing and implementing an organizational reporting strategy that provided input and analysis to senior leadership decision making.
Prior experience in a higher education technology environment.
Prior experience in a matrix management structure in which you rely on other leaders for delivery of portions of your work. Ability to organize and work effectively with cross-functional project teams from various departments and locations.
Demonstrated skills in project management, leadership, and/or analysis, negotiation, systems analysis, and team building, client relationship management, process improvement, strategic planning.
Ability to work independently and proactively.
Proven ability to creatively solve problems and to influence outcomes through persuasion, effective communications and relationship building.
