Manages projects requiring installation, maintenance, and repair of voice, data, CATV, fiber optic, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), distributed antenna system (DAS),video network systems, and other related network technologies.� Oversees work of Network Technician I & II that may involve configuration, troubleshooting, and repair of voice, data, coaxial, and fiber optic circuits. Serves as an escalation point to perform and troubleshoot more complex issues.� Ensures that technicians resolve network-related work requests.� Responsible for project review, during planning and implementation to ensure adherence to technical specifications and University’s low voltage structured wiring standards. Participates in the development of University low voltage structured wiring standards. Coordinates escalation of complex network issues to networking analysts, specialists or vendors for resolution.�
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides project management to departments for voice, data, coaxial, & fiber optic, installations and network designs in new construction, departmental moves, and existing space renovations.� Provides cost and time estimates to end users for related services.
Instructs Network Technician I and II in (and occasionally performs) installation, configuration, fusion splicing, testing, certification and maintenance of voice, data, coaxial and fiber optic cable.
Develops and provides network and departmental procedures and processes documentation to end users when requested.
Ensures proper maintenance of cable management database for copper plant, network and fiber optics.
Oversees Network Technician I & II for support and maintains of campus wide UPS units and DAS and manage vendor escalation and repair.
Coordinates performance of underground cable locates and updates of documentation in GIS.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate’s degree in computer science or related field required plus 4 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess advanced knowledge of computer and network system components and how they interface.
Completion of a networking certificate program from an accredited technical school required.
Additional BICSI certifications preferred.
Customer Service: Must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness, and empathy; must have the ability to assess the specific needs of the customer and be able to communicate these appropriately; must possess the ability to clearly communicate with clients and team members through written and spoken word.
Project Management: Ability to develop a project plan and manage technical projects involving work of others.
Planning and Organization: Ability to lead, plan, and organize the work of others.
Technical Knowledge: Understands the interworking of switches and routers, and other multi-vendor network equipment; understands network layers 1, 2, and 3 issues; requires detailed understanding of network low voltage structured wiring and its associated physical infrastructure.
Technical Solution Development: Understands the root cause of the problem and not the symptom to develop solutions; ability to make suggestions for technical modifications to prevent future problems; ability to make decisions on appropriate course of action for unique problems.
Technical Support: Ability to independently resolve complex problems within areas of responsibilities; ability to perform diagnostics on assigned software and hardware.
Consultancy Skills: Ability to assess needs of user and recommend small-scale solutions to meet customer need; ability to consult with senior-level decision makers, on an on-going basis, to discuss alternative technical solutions.
Applicant Special Instructions:
Standard computer department working environment with standing, walking, and lifting less than 50 pounds required; a moderate amount of work performed at customer site.
Position will serve in the on-call rotation.
The hiring range for this position is $27.15 - $35.29 per hour.
