Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania Biomedical Library seeks a creative and talented Visualizationist, experienced in 3D modeling, design and printing, as well as data visualization software and methods, to join our team. Reporting to the Biomedical Libraryâ™s Director of Data & Innovation Services, the Visualizationist will be based within the Biomedical Libraryâ™s Digital Makerspace, which currently includes 3D printing and scientific poster printing. The Visualizationist will have a dotted line reporting relationship with the Makerspace manager to keep the operation running smoothly and to expand upon existing services.
This new position will offer 3D modeling and visualization consultations and workshops, assist researchers with data and research impact visualizations, monitor trends in visualization software and hardware, and will contribute to planning efforts for a reimagining of the Biomedical Library as a Biotech Commons, which will include an expansion of our existing Makerspace.
The Biomedical Library supports teaching, learning, research, and clinical care at the University of Pennsylvania and operates as an integral part of the Penn Libraries system. The Visualizationist will collaborate with colleagues across the Penn Libraries and the University who share interest and responsibilities related to visualization technologies and services.Â Excellent relationships are in place with groups such as the Institute for Biomedical Informatics and various 3D printing centers on campus, which the Visualizationist can build upon.
Specific responsibilities include:
Provide consultations in 3D/VR/AR modeling and data visualization for faculty, students, researchers and clinicians.
Organize and present design and visualization workshops.
Monitor trends in design and visualization software and hardware, and make recommendations accordingly.
Contribute to planning for expanded Visualization services for the forthcoming renovation of the Biomedical Library as a Biotech Commons.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Penn Libraries and the University who share interest and responsibilities related to visualization technologies and services.
Maintain statistics of services provided and produce periodic reports of user stories and metrics.
Participate in operating and maintaining 3D printers.
Bachelorâ™s Degree required, Masterâ™s degree or higher preferred, in related discipline.
Minimum of 2 years relevant visualization experience.
In-depth knowledge of CAD, 3D/VR/AR modeling/design software and Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience in data interpretation, analysis, and visualizations through clear, compelling graphics, maps, networks, and charts.
Comfortable providing design or visualization consultations and workshops.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
