This position is in the Academic and Information Technology (AIT) unit of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). This position provides leadership, strategic planning, and direction for end-user computer support in the college. This position’s primary responsibility is the leadership of the staff members on the end-user computer support team, including hiring, evaluation, and directing the staff members’ work as well as managing technical operations, new technology research, and development and administrative work. This position is responsible for developing, coaching, and supporting the twelve-member team. The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced manager with a global perspective and a track record of ensuring accountability and managing ambiguity.
Manage Technical Support Staff (40%)
Manage performance and productivity, conduct hiring, staff planning, and resource allocation for 12 CEHD AIT staff. Staff includes 9 Unit Technical Coordinators, 1 Server Administrator, 1 Database/Network Administrator, and 1 Deployment Manager.
Cultivate a work environment that fosters high-performing employees and encourages innovation and continuous improvement of technology and services.
Provide individualized coaching, guidance, and. mentoring to team members.
Direct senior technical staff to establish technology, security, and. compliance standards and to manage technology platforms and monitor, analyze, and report on their performance.
Direct a broad range of technology support services (computer, network, server) across the entire College of Education and Human Development
Advise the CIO on strategy, solutions, resources, and compliance.
Establish and foster partnerships within AIT and with key stakeholders across the college and University to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
Build a strong network of peers within the University.
Actively participate in University-wide operations, initiatives, and community boards when appropriate.
Collaborate with local unit administrators to understand local support requirements, issues, and assess how well systems and services are meeting needs.
Develop and nurture partnerships with other college IT units, central IT operations, and college related IT committees and task forces
Research and Resource Development (20%)
Explore emerging/innovative technologies and trends to keep the college on the leading edge of technology at the University
Undertake development activities to maintain a high level of expertise in emerging technologies
Research and keep current with new hardware and software tools and methods
Examine options for performance improvement.
Forecast unit expenses and evaluate cost reduction opportunities.
Maintain ongoing contact with other units within the college and University to keep abreast of new developments in the areas of user services and desktop support
IT Service Delivery (10%)
Design, develop, and manage technical support systems for the entire college
Refine IT service management/delivery processes.
Unform users of technology problems, issues, and concerns.
Plan and implement changes in college support systems.
Coordinate support with other AIT teams.
Manage the relevant aspects of security/compliance policies.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six years of professional information technology experience or a Master’s degree in a related field and four year of professional experience.
Professional experience must include: developing projects and work plans, as well as leading information technology professionals.
Experience supporting a broad base of workers, systems and technologies
Knowledge of infrastructure technologies and IT service methodologies
Proven problem solving and analytical skills
Experience with strategy development and execution in a complex organization
Two or more years of experience managing a team of IT professionals
Project management experience
