Title IX Access & Equity Title IX Access & Equity is situated within the Social Justice Center at Emerson. The Social Justice Center works with and supports individuals and communities through advocacy, support, and radical care. Other areas within the Social Justice Center include: The Healing & Advocacy Collective, and the Elma Lewis Center for Civic Engagement, Learning, & Research. The Social Justice Center staff believe in the power of individual and community self-determination and engage in an ongoing praxisreflection and action. They seek to deepen their own liberatory practices and work to create liberatory spaces for others.
Role of the Deputy Title IX Coordinator Reporting to the Title IX coordinator, the deputy Title IX coordinator assists with the day to-day operations of the Title IX Office to ensure Emerson College's compliance with relevant sexual misconduct and equal opportunity laws, and foster a welcoming, safe, nondiscriminatory, and harassment-free educational, living, and working environment for all members of the Emerson community. The deputy Title IX coordinator assists with the coordination, response, investigation, and resolution of reports/complaints asserting violations of the College's Title IX policies. The deputy Title IX coordinator manages and oversees the initial intake of reports to ensure a well-documented, prompt, and fair response; investigates allegations related to sex-based discrimination, discriminatory harassment and misconduct; communicates with parties while protecting the independence, neutrality, integrity and privacy of the investigation; composes comprehensive written investigative reports; and advises leadership on potential risk exposure associated with reports investigated.
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Work Experience
Title IX, non-discrimination or related experience is required;
an advanced degree in law or a related field is preferred;
ability to prepare and present detailed reports, educational programs, training, and assessments;
expertise about ways that trauma can impact individuals' memory and demeanor, and recognition of the complexities surrounding sexual assault, sexual harassment, and intimate partner violence cases in a university or college setting;
excellent written and oral communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, planning, presentation, and project management skills;
excellent and demonstrated investigative skills;
demonstrated success in and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, providing equitable and respectful treatment to all individuals, and fostering positive relationships with diverse constituencies and an understanding of the intersectionality of a diverse student population;
compassion and empathy, while at the same time understanding process;
ability to remain fair and unbiased at all times;
the ability to make difficult decisions when necessary, to conduct difficult conversations when pertinent, and to listen to all sides of an issue;
ability to build rapport, work collaboratively with, and navigate complex issues across constituencies on and off campus, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni;
experience successfully working with confidential and sensitive information;
sound judgment, objectivity, and integrity;
talent for listening and facilitating difficult conversations.
