The College: The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences is the largest of RITs nine colleges, and has an enrollment of over 3,000 undergraduate students and 800 graduate students. The college, with over 100 faculty members, is housed in a modern facility equipped with numerous teaching and research laboratories. The college is home to the departments of Computer Science, Computing Security, Information Sciences and Technologies, Software Engineering, the School of Interactive Games and Media and a college-wide Ph.D. program, providing many opportunities for cooperation and research collaboration within and beyond the college.
Computing Security: In July of 2012, the Department of Computing Security at RIT was established to address critical security challenges cutting across computing disciplines. The department currently has 16 full-time faculty members and is committed to excellence in teaching and research. The department offers the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in computing security with current enrollment of 350 and 50 students, respectively. We also have a PhD program, which is administered within the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. We are designated as one of the National Centers for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the Department of Homeland Security and National Security Agency. The department seeks to advance the computing security discipline and to meet the rapidly growing need of computing security professionals in the workforce. RITs cyber defense team is a perennial contender in the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition and won the national championship in 2013. The department engages in a wide range of research in topics such as Adversarial Machine Learning, Applied Cryptography, Privacy, Digital Forensics, Network Security, Usable Security, and Cybersecurity Pedagogy.

The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Computing Security. We encourage strong candidates whose research focuses are in, but not limited to, the following areas: privacy, usable security, threat modeling, malware and digital forensics, network and system security, and applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in computing security.
RIT is making a major investment in cybersecurity, spurred by a recent gift of $20 million by alumnus Austin McChord and a $5 million investment by New York State. We are planning a new 45,000-sq. ft. building wing dedicated to a new Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI) that will both open in the summer of 2020, helping to further establish RIT as a leader in this field. Currently, we operate a Center for Cybersecurity that brings together over 30 faculty members from across the Institute to address the growing challenges in cybersecurity with an interdisciplinary approach. While successful candidates will be appointed to the Department of Computing Security, they will be expected to collaborate across departments and colleges, to play critical roles in advancing research and education in cybersecurity, and to contribute to the growth of the Center and the future GCI. Recent scholarly dissemination record that demonstrates exceptional potential in cybersecurity research from the perspective of the candidates discipline of expertise. Scholarly dissemination includes presentations in academic conferences, publications in peer-reviewed journals, or development of peer-reviewed software products or data sets.
Demonstrated evidence of experience or potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program.
Commitment and potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the ability to mentor students in research at the doctoral, masters, and undergraduate levels.
An interest in working in a collaborative, collegial department and among colleagues in the department, college, and institution.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
