The primary mandate of the Senior Privacy Officer is to deliver on BMO's commitment to protect customer and employee personal information. Reporting to the Enterprise Chief Privacy Officer, the Senior Privacy Officer monitors risk and compliance with applicable privacy regulations, advises management on implications of new regulatory policies, legislation or Bank products, and assists in the implementation of new or revised policies and programs to address them.
Provide advisory services on privacy matters. Work proactively with business lines toward ensuring that effective and efficient solutions are identified and implemented.
Review various forms, contracts, disclosures and advertisements for compliance with applicable privacy requirements.
Consult on new products, services and automated systems to assist the business with incorporating privacy requirements into these initiatives.
Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in all regulations, directives and guidance which apply to the Privacy program.
Provide input to the business regarding emerging privacy issues and interpretation of privacy regulations.
Identify training needs based on gaps identified through the regulatory privacy monitoring process.
Privacy Program Execution and Monitoring
Coordinate and perform ongoing risk assessments and reviews to ensure risk controls are operating appropriately. Create analyses of risk assessments for business group(s).
Anticipate potential consequences of unaddressed risk factors or shortfalls in compliance and recommend appropriate controls. Identify opportunities to implement more effective compliance-related policies and procedures.
Elevate high profile or high risk cases to the Enterprise Chief Privacy Officer and management to ensure visibility and prompt resolution.
Prepare documentation of monitoring and testing activities.
Qualifications Knowledge & Skills - Recognized Legal, Compliance, Privacy or Risk certification - Minimum of 3 years relevant experience - Requires knowledge of complex body of privacy regulations and how they apply to the Bank and how to risk assess situations against those regulations. Requires strategic approach to problem solving to provide privacy risk mitigation strategies. -Ability to effectively communicate the roles and importance of each of the three lines of defense, as well as proactively identifying regulatory risk -Strong communication, critical thinking, relationship management, and project management skills
