General Statement of Duties:
The Assistant Director Marketing & Communications strategically promotes the college via traditional and digital messaging and executes creative communication projects to support the college's communications, public relations and marketing objectives. Serves as the chief writer for the Marketing & Communications team. Conceptualizes, develops and produces innovative approaches to communication initiatives including public relations/communications, website management, blogs, podcasts, webinars, and social platforms. This position supports the ongoing development and maintenance of the college's website content to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance with required standards; manages a photo library and oversees photography; provides direction for freelance photo shoots. The Assistant Director manages, maintains, and monitors the College's social platforms and reports on its effectiveness; Assists in the development of the College's social strategy, provides support and training to the college community on social media techniques and best practices, keeps up-to-date on latest communications, media, social media trends, and implements best practices.
Responsibilities: (Not an exhaustive list)
Manages the day-to-day social media community; ensures a vibrant, relevant, and responsive digital ecosystem that showcases MWCC's points of pride, unique selling points, and value proposition; works with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop influencer conversations.
Monitors and responds to inquiries via social channels
Explores and identifies new audience opportunities in social media, developing new social channels to publish marketing content.
Collects, reports, and presents on engagement via digital channels on a recurring basis.
Attends in-person college events and special occasions and captures photo and video to be shared on social media platforms.
Manages the College's student-led social engagement group (Street Team)
Digital Content Management
Write, edit, and publish marketing content for the College, including website pages, blogs, webinars, podcasts, and social media platforms. Manages website content and works with college's website management vendor.
Maximize site traffic by utilizing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) keywords
Creates, edits and promote College news articles
Manages and maintains College's digital assets through online digital asset management (DAM) system: build/maintain photo archives across various media and software; search MWCC's photo library and digital assets needed for various projects
Works with Media Services Department and Director of Marketing to develop video and digital assets for website and other college promotional purposes
Writing and Editing
Writing and editing projects include, but are not limited to: press releases, media advisories, ad copy, web content, feature stories, social media content, web content, speeches and talking points editorials and other marketing/communications content as needed.
Stay current on news/media industry trends in order to develop effective content for use over a variety of platforms
Align public relations outreach with marketing and enrollment goals
Conduct interviews with students, staff, faculty and community partners as necessary
Manage, write and edit web-based college news
Manages and updates all projects through department's online project management system
Serves on college committees as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications or related field
Five years successful experience in marketing and/or communications
Proficiency in digital media, including social media
Proficient in Word, WordPress, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc., and social monitoring tools such as iconosquare, etc.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Aptitudes
Excellent organizational skills
Detail oriented and ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Strong working knowledge of emerging web trends and standards
Ability to compose and edit photos; add useful metadata for asset management database; photography skills
Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, set priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with high attention to detail; excellent communications, writing, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with local, regional and national news organizations and best practices
