Potomac State College, part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking qualified candidates for a Social Media Specialist position. The Social Media Specialist balances a high level of writing, content creation and editing with a savvy knowledge of social media monitoring, posting and engagement on a variety of platforms. The Social Media Specialist produces high-quality social media posts and campaigns to support College-wide and unit-specific goals and is comfortable managing various social media platforms and audiences.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Identify ways and engage to build WVU Potomac State College's visibility and enhance its reputation through innovative use of social media platforms.
Post/manage/engage daily on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other primary College-wide social media platforms.
Fully understand the College's mission, vision, values, goals and brand.
Understand the culture of social media for target audiences.
Maintain quality on all College-wide social media platforms.
Capture video and photo as needed or work with videographers, designers and photographers on an as-needed-basis to develop high-quality visual content.
Develop and execute social media campaigns and projects that align with College goals.
Oversee a vibrant social media student group and build a network of content-creators (students, faculty/staff) to contribute to various platforms.
Monitor trends in marketing and social media to help strategize whether it is appropriate for the College to engage.
Make suggestions on how WVU Potomac State College should innovate and evolve via social media platforms.
Make suggestions to social media managers across campus with advice and expectations.
Design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns.
Help to manage the College's social presence during weather alerts, emergency announcements and crisis situations.
Maintain the daily messages on the College's Information Stations, including creation and posting of graphic slides.
Work Hours: Varied; Requires occasional evening/weekend hours
Bachelor's degree required in communications, marketing, journalism, multi-media or a related field. (Equivalent, significant, directly related experience may be substituted for education requirement.)
Two to three years' relevant experience required
Demonstrated excellence of all popular social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
Demonstrated excellence in writing social media posts, blogs; familiarity in writing press releases, news stories, etc.
Demonstrated experience interviewing, editing, photography and videography
Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage priorities and projects effectively
Ability to operate the necessary computer, software, web-based and other high tech, emerging equipment, and perform various communications duties using a broad range of web and publishing programs (graphic, photo and video editing; content management systems; media monitoring distribution systems; archival programs)
Ability to carry up to 30 pounds of photographic and video equipment
Requirements Valid driver's license
