OVERVIEW The New School is pursuing strategic expansion in the areas of online education and services, noncredit programming, K-12 course offerings, corporate partnerships, executive education, and global academic partnerships. This is a high priority and exciting University initiative, overseen by the President and a steering committee of the President, Provost, Chief Marketing Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. These New Business initiatives involve potential external partnerships and acquisitions as well as teams and resources across the University including the Provost's Office and Deans, Global Academic Partnerships, Open Campus, Corporate Partnerships and Industry Engagement, Marketing & Communications, Legal, HR, and Finance & Business.
NEEDFORNEWROLE The growth of new initiatives requires additional capacity in financial tracking, modeling, and project management. The beginnings of this work is performed by several roles across the University. The newly created Project Manager and Analyst, Strategic Initiatives (PMA) will standardize and support financial reporting and modeling, data gathering and tracking, project management practices, and analysis for ongoing, new, and potential projects. The added capacity will allow the New Business Steering Committee and the Director of Strategic Initiatives to focus on overall strategy and direction while providing for more complete and relevant reporting and more direct and centralized project management of new ventures, supporting faster growth of new revenue streams for the University.
MANAGEMENTANDSUPPORT Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the PMA will collaborate with contacts in existing and new project and business teams, as well as the University's leadership team, to support financial reporting, analysis, strategic direction, and oversight; and manage discrete workstreams necessary to launch and grow new revenue generation activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Reporting and Strategic Analysis
Develop and oversee multi-year financial projections and models for new and existing ventures in online education, noncredit programming, K-12 course offerings, corporate partnerships, executive education, and global academic partnerships
Generate reports and recommendations to inform an assortment of strategic discussions and negotiations both internally and with external partners
Support financial analytics functions and needs across strategic initiative teams, identifying best practices and providing support and guidance, as needed
Project Management, Planning, and Administration
Support the development of and manage project plans and budgets for new and growing businesses and teams
Oversee transactions and goal tracking, particularly for ventures in start-up and implementation phases
Contribute to and coordinate research on a variety of new initiatives and business strategies, providing direction and focus, as necessary
2-4 years of professional experience in project management, strategic planning, data analysis, communications
Proven ability to and comfort with independently developing and maintaining: – Financial reports and analyses for tracking and decision-making – Project plans and goals to deliver on milestones – Business models to conceive and guide new, growing, and existing activities – Confidential and sensitive communications and materials
Demonstrated ability and experience collaborating and coordinating with others in a complex, multi-team, multi-office environment, and building and sustaining professional relationships to support collaborative work
Comfort with making recommendations based on limited or ambiguous information
Demonstrated knowledge of and/or ability to quickly learn Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Workday, and other financial and customer relationship management systems
Excellent and proactive verbal and written communication skills
A sense of humor; professional and intellectual curiosity; flexibility and creativity; self-directed and collaborative mindset
Demonstrated interest in The New School and its mission, higher education services and strategy, data analysis, and/or project management
Master's degree in a relevant field
Professional experience in business consulting, financial strategy, K-12 or higher education, start-up operations, or media management
