Assistant Director, Georgetown Scholars Program (GSP) -GeorgetownUniversity Main Campus
The Georgetown Scholars Program (GSP) was founded in 2004 and has served over 1,600 Georgetown University students. Currently, GSP works with 650+ first generation and low-Income college students as they navigate through elite higher education. GSP's mission aims to increase the sense of belonging for students and also to bolster their academic and personal growth. GSP's suite of programs and services Includes community building activities, mentorship programs, financial microgrants to offset unanticipated costs, and advocacy work. With nearly fourteen years of experience, GSP has expanded its scope to emerge as a national thought leader, drawing attention to the inequities in students' experiences at highly selective schools. GSP students graduate at a rate of over 96.4%.
The Assistant Director assists the GSP staff In managing a program of over 650 Students, with a specific focus on the Community Building tenet of the program. The primary function of the Assistant Director is to organize all of GSP's events from large-scale events comprised of 150 - 300 individuals to smaller-scale weekly roundtables dinners for 20-30 students. These events Include GSP's Annual Induction Ceremony, two GSP Alumni Advisory Board meetings per year, a Senior Professional Development event in partnership with the company, Ann Taylor Loft, a student empowerment summit, various Admitted Student Open Houses, GSP's Annual Graduation Celebration party and other events open to over 1,600 GSP stakeholders. In addition to these events, the Assistant Director also organizes Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break, Easter Break, and other special programming for 100+ students while they remain on campus. The Assistant Director is also tasked with collecting and implementing feedback received about programming. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
Lead the GSP team in fielding communications to 650+ students, 1200+ alumni and 1000+ volunteers. They work closely to manage a team of 6 undergraduate student workers, 1 Cristo Rey high school intern, and 1 graduate student worker as well as oversee an 8-person student board in planning of events to connect students to one another and ensure they are properly supported throughout the process.
Oversee all media communications and social media productions. Finally, they will work with a monthly spending budget of $6,000+ managing, tracking and reconciling expenses.
Recruit, hire, train, manage all student workers and student board members.
Manage and mentor the Student Board President in particular to serve as a support to cultivate, approve and execute all event programming.
Work with the GSP Executive Director in carrying out events, networking, job, and food access opportunities for students. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Assistant Director will organize event venues for bi-annual Alumni Advisory Board Meetings.
Work to coordinate GSP volunteers' meetings with students (including One-on-Ones with Alumni, Roundtables with Alumni).
Work with Spanish speaking parents to give them background on the program and translate all materials into Spanish.
A bachelor's degree in a relevant major
One to three years of professional experience in event planning, marketing, and social media is required
Ideal candidate possesses a strong personal background in understanding the experiences and Issues experienced by first generation and low-Income college students
Two years of experience serving in an advisory capacity to college students
Must be flexible working evening and weekend hours
Must have experience using Google Drive, Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Publisher, and Adobe.
Previous event planning experience
Excellent verbal and written skills including experience writing marketing or public relations text
Strong correspondence capabilities, including writing ability and professional phone skills
Incredible attention to detail is critical as well as the ability to multitask
Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing
Familiarity with social media, website, and email content management systems.
Experience with WordPress, MailChlmp and Photoshop Is a plus
Previous team management is a plus
Previous experience with constituent database management
Experience cultivating relationships with supporters of programs such as board members and mentors
Excellent interpersonal skills and highly team-oriented
