Job Summary: Provides strategic communications and marketing leadership for the College of Letters and Science. As a member of the Dean's senior leadership team, the Director of Strategic Communications will be responsible for articulating and achieving a comprehensive and integrated media and marketing strategy that extends the reach and profile of the College, advances its core missions, and promotes the value of liberal arts and sciences education and research. Leads a team of communication professionals to deliver high quality marketing and branding materials to increase the reach and profile of the College and its programs across all media platforms, for internal and external audiences. Provides informed counsel to the Dean and senior administrators on internal and external communications issues. With responsibilities for supporting communications and branding within undergraduate student recruitment, alumni engagement and development, engages a wide range of audiences, including prospective and current students and families, peer institutions, national media, alumni, and donors and friends. Working in consultation with the College's leadership team and the UC Davis Office of Strategic Communications, develops strategies to build the strongest base of support for the College. Serves as a member of the College's senior administrative team.

Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism or other related field, or equivalent experience/training. - 5 or more years of successively increasing responsibility in communications/public relations/media/branding and marketing. - Excellent promotional and editorial writing skills, with strong skills in art direction and visual identity. - Experience across a range of media, to include both print and digital, with written and design components. - Demonstrated progression of experience with increasing responsibilities using independent judgment. - Experience writing articles, speeches, position papers, web and social media content, marketing and development materials, and visual presentations. - Skills to develop coherent, memorable, high-impact branding that expresses the core values of the College to a range of audiences. - Interpersonal skills and political acumen to communicate with a broad range of internal and external constituents with diplomacy and discretion. - Excellent interview, research, collaboration and management skills. - Skills to independently manage and prioritize multiple activities, initiatives and projects to meet multiple deadlines. - Knowledge of the principles and practices of public information, marketing, outreach and media relations. - Communication and public relation skills to effectively communicate complex information in an understandable manner through multiple communication channels to diverse audiences. - Knowledge of development communications, marketing and donor cultivation strategies.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in higher education marketing and communications. - Academic background and professional experience in marketing and branding. - Academic background and professional experience in graphic design. - Demonstrated experience implementing a brand identity and developing collateral materials. - Experience with crisis communications. - Media relations experience and track record of placement. - Supervisory and budgetary experience. - Knowledge and understanding of fields and disciplines within the liberal arts and sciences.
