Job Summary: The Student Life Assistant Director I provides oversight and planning for the development, implementation, and delivery of one or more programs, services, or activities within a department. May supervise professional staff. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.
Additional Department Summary: The Assistant Director for Housing Operations is responsible for the day to day management of housing facilities. The Assistant Director is responsible for completing projects and functions related to housing operations. Ensure that the resident student experience is enhanced through effective management of facilities, systems, and inventory. Work with campus and community partners to identify, address and evaluate facilities or operational needs. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment conducive to student success and learning. Assist with project management and ongoing renovation needs. The position is also responsible for the Emergency Preparedness functions within Housing and Residential Communities (HRC) and serves in the capacity as a representative to the campus community for many housing operation projects and initiatives, such as the annual Move-In Day. Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience; OR Master's degree and one (1) year of experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Flexible in work habits to allow for extended work hours. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge: Experience may include supervisory experience, customer service, advising, delegation, communication, management, creativity, and creative problem-solving. Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of two years customer service experience and at least two years experience in a supervising role. Residence hall experience.
