In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks in support of media efforts, complete project-based work and provide administrative support to track the team’s success. Responsibilities include contributing to the Communications plan by conducting essential research and outreach, maintaining department reports, creating presentations and drafting and posting content.
This position will work from our Washington DC office and will report to the Executive Director of Communications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Tracks and coordinates industry press clippings daily and produces Communications Dashboard reports on a monthly, quarterly, and cumulative basis
Contributes to overall earned and digital media strategy execution; conducting media relations outreach with guidance from Communications Director; pitching news announcements and conducting follow-up via phone and email; pulling editorial calendars and highlighting opportunities for placement; and other assignments as needed to meet the Communications team’s goals
Develops competency with Cision and other online research and monitoring tools to maintain targeted media lists for broadcast, print and online outlets
Writes first drafts of press materials, media pitches, talking points and blog posts as needed
Answers incoming media calls and emails; gathers basic info for follow-up and directs to appropriate Communications staff
Conducts earned and digital media influencer research to identify opportunities for engagement both on and off-line
Crafts engaging social media posts for Digital Manager as-needed, differentiated by platform
Posts content to AF&PA website, including press releases, blogs, one-pagers and others as needed
Manages story gathering, drafting and distribution of AF&PA member e-newsletter on bi-weekly basis
Assists in the creation of presentations and speeches to support the CEO and other members of the senior management team members
Maintains Communications planning and archiving as directed, including updating biennial state economic fact sheets and issue one-pagers, maintaining department calendar, cataloguing speaking engagements/presentations made by AF&PA staff, and managing distribution lists in email and membership database.
Supports office management and organization; maintaining supply closet; processing invoices and cataloguing check requests; liaising with vendors; other assignments as directed
Limited administrative support to the Executive Director as needed
Maintains excellent communication with the team and other departments across the association
Other duties, including event support, assigned as needed
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment, with high attention to detail
A demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, discretion and personal initiative in times of limited supervision and grasp new tasks and issues quickly.
Ability to maintain positive rapport with co-workers and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
Superior administrative abilities (typing, file organization, copying, etc.), and high-level computer knowledge/skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, etc.)
Ability to do short-term travel one to two times per year as necessary
BA or BS in related field, preferably communications or public relations
Experience working in an office environment, preferable in a communications or administrative related role
