Communications Officer, Kennedy Institute of Ethics - Georgetown University Medical Center
The Communications Officer is responsible for assisting in the execution of an integrated communications strategy for the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and its affiliated programs, including Ethics Lab and the Bioethics Research Library. Tasks will include Website management along with regular social media updates and engagement, writing short-form articles for the Institute website, drafting and sending blast emails to various Institute audiences, as well as designing and producing a variety of digital and print materials related to one-off or recurring Institute initiatives. Additionally, this position will work on promotion and audience generation for Institute programming such as Conversations in Bioethics, the Bioethics Research Showcase, and the Intensive Bioethics Course. Incumbent will also coordinate with Georgetown University's office of communications to facilitate KIE scholar engagement with outside media organizations. Duties include but are not limited to:
Deliver KIE communications updates via multiple streams - social media, website, mass emailing, posters, and other media.
Engage with various KIE social media properties
Facilitate development of new content in various media
Writing short-form articles for the Institute website
Crafting and publishing material on KIE blogs
Update various KIE web properties to ensure that pages are maintained and content is up-to-date and accurate
Review all KIE web sites to ensure content is on message
Ensure all linkages are correct
Design and Development
Design and produce a variety of digital and print materials related to one-off or recurring Institute initiatives
Bachelor's Degree, and 3-5 years of experience in a comparable setting
Undergraduate level understanding of the topical area of bioethics.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Experience (intermediate skill) with Wordpress
Familiarity with Sketch, mailing protocol programs and applications, social media communication, and Adobe suite
Willingness and ability to acquire new skills with proper training
A service-oriented, professional demeanor and a team orientation (avoid "it's not my job")
Must have poise, diplomacy and confidence to handle all situations, especially those of a confidential nature and in interactions with KIE faculty, staff, and University administrators
Skilled and successful at prioritizing work and multi-tasking to meet deadlines. Strong time management skills are a must. Must be detail oriented and able to think outside the box to solve issues creatively
