The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Pratt supports faculty across all schools at Pratt, in studios as well as in the classrooms. The Center aims to foster a collaborative faculty community that builds on current best pedagogical practices. The CTL is committed to creating an inclusive culture of teaching and learning, and promoting contemplative teaching that supports social justice through critical, inclusive, reflective, and embodied practices.
The Center for Teaching and Learning seeks a full time Learning Designer to support the development and delivery of inclusive and equitable teaching and learning projects at Pratt. By applying best practices of instructional design, this person will support teaching in the liberal arts and sciences, graduate programs, as well as in various art, design, information and architecture disciplines. The Learning Designer will also help faculty integrate learning technologies (LMS, ePortfolio and others) that address the needs of all learners and learning styles. Finally, the Learning Designer will provide general assistance to the CTL Director with the day to day planning, training and support of all activities of the Center, organizing faculty development events, learning communities and groups that foster a collaborative culture of reflective intercultural and inclusive pedagogy practices at the Institute. This position reports to the CTL Director.
Support Institute-wide teaching and learning initiatives that foster the development and implementation of innovative, inclusive learning environments that enhance student engagement and persistence within the context of an art and design institute ;
Assist with the design of faculty development and digital resources for inclusive and intercultural instructional design strategies;
Work closely with faculty communities and groups by providing training materials, updates and outreach through meetings and online;
Support the pedagogical development of new faculty and part-time faculty through coordination of workshops and seminars;
Partner with Pratt faculty in the integration of technology to enrich and innovate within learning environments;
Support the Director in building a vibrant teaching-focused faculty community across all of the schools at Pratt Institute and using all modalities.
Qualifications: Master's Degree required. Strong interest in inclusive learning design, work experience in an educational setting, and interest in art & design education is strongly preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with current trends, methodologies and practices in learning theory, especially in higher education/art and design education;
Basic knowledge of key areas of learning design principles and techniques, digital technologies and tools for design and delivery;
Creativity to envision and document new processes and communicate them effectively in writing, visual media and in person;
Appreciation for and/or experience with practices and processes in the field of art, design information and/or architecture;
Adaptability, flexibility and a positive, can-do attitude for collaboratively building a teaching and learning community.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Leadership skills in facilitating conversations on the topics of diversity and equitable learning design;
Demonstrated competence in working within different modes of delivery and using technologies efficiently;
Understanding of reflective and integrative ePortfolio practices;
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects;
A respectful attitude towards all diversity; an enthusiastic mindset towards learning new things and a strong sense of moral integrity.
