As a member of International Student & Scholar Services team and the UMSL Global office at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the International Student Advisor is primarily responsible for advising international students on immigration and regulatory issues as well as social, cultural and practical matters.
Assist students on a broad range of matters of life at UMSL, in St. Louis and the United States including, but not limited to, immigration regulations, maintenance of student status, employment, financial concerns, adjustment to campus and community, and social, cultural and practical issues.
Manage an international student case-load including SEVIS reporting, registration and other regulatory tasks.
Help international students obtain work authorization including CPT, OPT and STEM OPT.
Develop immigration-related content for print, web and presentation use.
Assist in planning and administering new student orientation along with other campus social and cultural programming.
Manage international student and scholar records in the University database.
Serve as liaison to UMSL departments and outside agencies on issues related to international students.
Serve on campus-wide committees as assigned.
Duties as assigned related to both the functions of the ISSS team as well as the broader UMSL Global mission.
**Please note: this job may require occasional evening and weekend work as determined by the manager.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident status as required by USCIS regulations for Alternate Responsible Officers and Designated School Officials in SEVIS.
Masters-level degree in higher education or a related field.
Experience working with international students in a college or university setting.
Experience with program coordination or project management.
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
Excellent customer service skills.
Experience with SEVIS, Terra Dotta and other university SIS systems.
A demonstrated committment to growth and professional development.
Proficiency in a foreign language.
Experience studying or living overseas.
