University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus' philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, and more.
•Develops, implements and maintains resource allocations for large and/or multiple publishing production needs, projects and exhibits. •Responsible for monitoring and managing the production of multiple projects, distributed among multiple vendors. •May assist in budget development; ensures monitoring and tracking of publications/production expenses. •Responsible for managing vendor bidding processes when necessary, as well as ensuring that all projects come in on budget. •Negotiates and manages the publication cycle beginning with creative production through contracts with vendors and final print or electronic production. •Employee will be front-line liaison with vendors, responsible developing and nurturing these relationships. •Evaluates and monitors Campus or vendor services used in the production of printed and electronic publications. •Responsible for ensuring all products are produced to the highest possible standards by campus approved vendors, as well as making any necessary arrangements or new relationships should the current vendors fail to perform. •May lead a team of Publications/Production professionals to include assigning and reviewing work load distribution. •Employee will work closely with traffic manager to ensure projects are completed effectively and on time; this may include working with the traffic manager to determine a more efficient course of action. •Ensures efficient storage systems are in place to include desktop publishing and image scanning. •Responsible for the maintenance and growth of internal servers and other storage options, both internal and externally accessible. •Reviews work orders for due dates and sets priority schedules. •Works closely with clients, editors, and designers to determine production schedules, as well as ensure they are adhered to. •Initiates and designs publications proposals including approaches, trends, sources and uses that impact individual or multiple departments. •Employee will be expected to make suggestions with regards to the production and/or approach to projects—e.g., paper suggestions, size recommendations, efficient processes, etc. •Arranges contracts with manufacturers and suppliers. •Responsible for working with both vendors and procurement in order to arrange contracts with vendors; responsible for obtaining campus approval for any new vendors and ensuring they are properly entered in the system.•Advanced project consulting and management skills to ensure operations are running smoothly and deadlines can be met effectively. •Advanced knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. •Advanced skills in originating and maintaining databases for desktop publishing and image storage. •Advanced skills to effectively produce visual materials that meet and satisfy the needs of the client. •Advanced skills in interpersonal communications to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse client population, staff and vendors. •Strong skills in coaching and mentoring lower level staff. •Strong skills in negotiating client needs and vendor requirements/pricing. •Ability to manage and schedule small to large multiple projects. •Strong skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints. •Understanding of and experience in project management in a communications environment including scheduling, trafficking, project initiation, and resource allocation, analysis, and projection. •Ability to support a positive work environment that stimulates staff creativity and at the same time demands a highly efficient and responsive team approach. •Skills to motivate a high-level professional staff with a wide range of organizational, technical, creative, and client-focused capabilities. •Advanced knowledge of Filemaker Pro.
Education/training: •Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
