An integral part of the development communications team, the Assistant Director is responsible for managing an average of 100+ emails per year to support the fundraising and engagement goals of the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development.
Serve as the in-house expert for email development best practices to guide optimal deliverability and performance, broadcast email software, and subscription management in a development and alumni setting
Work with the Alumni Engagement, Gift Planning, and Principal and Major Gifts teams to maximize email campaigns and leverage Salesforce Marketing Cloud functionality, including personalization, segmentation, dynamic content, and A/B testing strategies
Assist in content development, including writing copy and utilizing InDesign and PhotoShop to create banners, buttons, and other visual assets for use in email campaigns and on website landing pages as needed
Build all department email campaigns using existing templates, Dreamweaver, HTML, and CSS; work with University colleagues on new template requests as necessary
Optimize/develop email website landing pages using a Drupal 8 content management system
Ensure emails follow industry policies and best practices
Provide project management of email marketing campaigns from conception through implementation
Scope project requirements, including identifying sender, goal, main messaging points, landing pages, approval requirements, etc.
Deliver projects on time ensuring quality standards are met
Coordinate scheduling of AAD emails and update the university-wide email calendar
Reporting and Analytics:
Aggregate and analyze Salesforce Marketing Cloud reports and examine additional data reporting applications, such as QlikView and Qualtrics, etc.
Interpret data, noting trends (year over year and campaign comparisons) and making recommendations for future email strategies
Develop an analytics reporting approach that helps key stakeholders understand the impact of overall email strategies, as well as individual pieces of content
Benchmark office metrics against industry standards
Monitor email deliverability and develop tactics to combat list churn
Develops, updates, and maintains web pages using existing templates on a Drupal 8 content management system, Dreamweaver, and HTML as needed
Manages other projects as assigned

Four or more years of related experience with proven writing, project management, and email marketing skills.
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field preferred. Ability to meet deadlines and to prioritize work in an environment with multiple interests
Proficiency working in email deployment and testing platforms, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, Silverpop, and Litmus
Experience with HTML editors and coding
Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically with Dreamweaver, InDesign, and PhotoShop
Working knowledge of the following technologies and terms: HTML, CSS, Rich Text, CAN-SPAM, Deliverability, Domain, ISP, ESP, Alt-tag, etc.
Experience using donor databases, specifically Advance, and data visualizers/data reporting applications, such as QlikView, is preferred
Ability to analyze data with an aptitude for data-driven recommendations
Proficiency with photo and video/audio platforms such as SmugMug, Wave, and SoundCloud
Familiarity with content management systems and email and analytics tools, such as Drupal, Salesforce, and Google Analytics
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong editorial skills with keen attention to detail
Creative thinker who is open to new ideas and has a positive, can-do attitude
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact well with colleagues, students, alumni, donors, and faculty
Ability to work both as part of the communications team and independently
