The Network Operations Engineer position is a hands-on, highly technical role
responsible for maintenance and support of the enterprise data network. This position
is responsible for troubleshooting and configuration of routing, switching, security,
wireless, and other network devices. Other duties include documentation of network services,
deployment and use of network monitoring solutions, utilization of network traffic
analyzers, dashboarding performance metrics, and proactively identify network
capacity and performance issues. The ability to work a flexible off-hours schedule for
planned and unplanned maintenance is required.
This position may be filled at a higher level. In addition to the responsibilities noted, the higher level position will be responsible for project management and developing staff.
ITS provides network services including Voice over IP, Ethernet, Internet, and
wireless connectivity to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State.
The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent
communication skills for customer and vendor relations, and have the ability to learn
new skills, tools, and technologies.
