Reporting to the Director of Academic Affairs, the Associate Director plays a critical role and in providing academic support to students in the MBA Program. In addition to advising, this role serves as a key collaborator within the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) partnering with the Student Life and Engagement team on various student and staff facing initiatives. This individual represents OSA in interdepartmental meetings at the Business School and throughout the University.
As a member of the Advising and Academic Success team, support the Academic Advising Program for over 1600 MBA and dual degree students by directly advising assigned clusters of new and continuing students. Provide counseling and advisement regarding academic performance, course selection, registration, and degree requirements. Partner with appropriate team members across Academics, Student Life & Engagement, centers and programs, and serve on various committees where applicable.
Manage and support students in crisis and refer them to University resources where appropriate. Build, establish, and maintain relationships with the Office of Disability Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Gender-Based Misconduct, and other key stakeholders.
Manage the Advising Team's data and technology platforms. Oversee the advising and tutoring platform as it relates to scheduling appointments. Facilitate and analyze reports regarding academic progress and graduation audit status for administrators and advisors. Organize new students into clusters and learning teams prior to matriculation.
Manage temporary workers, interns, and work-study students who work for both the Academics team and, where appropriate, the OSA team as a whole.
Benchmark and share best practices for engaging and expanding the reach of the advising team to increase touchpoints for all students in the community.
Enhance operational efficiencies within the Academic Advising team by identifying strategies to leverage technology such as chat-bots, virtual advising, and other resources that may play a role in expanding our reach throughout the school.
Develop and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders throughout the school and University including Admissions, Financial Aid, centers and programs, the Career Management Center, and the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence.
Attend academic Orientation sessions and provide an introduction to academic services. Participate in information sessions and tabling for current and prospective students.
Works on strategic projects and other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Dean.
Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent and a minimum of 4-6 years' related experience required. Master's Degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum of 4 years' experience in higher education advising or administration strongly preferred.
The incumbent must have strong interpersonal skills and fluency in Microsoft Office. Experience in project management and leading teams. Absolute attention to detail is required. Evenings, weekends and early morning hours are sometimes required.
Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and projects in a high volume service-oriented environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also necessary. The ability to exercise discretion and judgment in confidential matters is required. The candidate must be a proven team player, able to work cooperatively in small groups or independently with minimal supervision required; demonstrates the ability to build and establish relationships with a diverse student body, faculty, and administrators.
Openness to feedback while maintaining growth, learning, and change-positive mindset is a must. Be pro-active with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Background in Counseling, Advisement, Higher Education Administration, and/or MBA programs. Master's Degree and/or its equivalent required.
