Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director for Experiential Education and Discovery for the Office of Career Exploration and Success (formerly University Career Services). This position reports to the Director of Career Readiness & Experiential Education and is the lead staff member for developing and maintaining initiatives relating to experiential education and discovery. The Associate Director directly supervises a team that oversees experiential education initiatives, career discovery endeavors, and resources for students within the still exploring career cluster.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Collaborates with various campus partners to convene various advisory councils, incorporate curricular-based initiatives, and launch a career readiness badging system.
Provides leadership for experiential education initiatives by assisting students in making meaning out of experiential education opportunities (e.g., internships/co-ops, leadership, research, student employment, etc.)
Endeavors to infuse career readiness competencies into student programming that results in students making meaning of their experiences and being more internship and career-ready, as well as more connected to the work of the Office of Career Exploration and Success early in their college careers.
Develops and provides direction for a new internship search strategies course and the established Rutgers Internship and Co-op Program course.
Works with on-campus employers to convert their positions into high-impact internship opportunities.
Explores opportunities to incorporate career exploration modules into academic courses and campus programs.
Develops career modules incorporated into academic courses and/or academic programs through partnerships with faculty.
Provides leadership to the Experiential Education & Discovery Team comprised of at least two full-time program directors and undergraduate/graduate peer career advisors.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, or related field.
A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience that shows understanding of career development and experiential education theories, curriculum development and integration, project management, and employer experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Available for minimal travel; some evenings and weekends required.
Requires a strong record of high-level performance and experience with diagnosing complex issues and solutions.
Demonstrated ability to use and customize employer/internship database (Handshake or similar products).
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be willing to work some evening and weekend programs.
Salary: $75,180 – $79,000
