Each semester, the Program for Patient Safety and Quality at Boston Children's Hospital offers an exciting learning opportunity for undergraduate students who are interested in a career in healthcare administration. Selected students will gain exposure to the multifaceted operations of a critical program within a large academic medical center in the Boston area. Through this administrative internship, students will become engaged in a combination of observational and project-based work while receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced healthcare professionals.
The intern will be precepted by an Operations Manager who will be responsible for providing the student with a broad range of learning opportunities depending on priorities of the Program, as well as the student's own professional interests.
This Program for Patient Safety and Quality intern will be responsible for:
Participation in administrative led projects ranging from all areas of the Program, including quality improvement, operations, data analysis and aggregation, chart audit documentation, and project management. This also includes attending some meetings and preparing and presenting project work.
Managing and analyzing data for quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
Attending, grand rounds or other medical education or management lectures of interest.
Attending courses offered to hospital employees through the HR department including Lean 6 Sigma, Excel, and Introduction to Project Management.
Assisting in the planning and coordination of program-wide events such as the annual National Patient Safety Awareness Week and National Healthcare Quality Week.
To qualify, you must have:
At least one year of undergraduate coursework in a healthcare or business related field.
Availability to work at least 8 hours per week.
